I wake up feeling a weight on my back. "Happy birthday, y/n" James whispers. I groan "it's too early for birthdays". He gasps "it's never too early for birthdays". I bury my face in my pillow "James, you're heavy" I mumble. He chuckles "get up then". I shake my head "no, I'm tired, leave me alone". He sighs "fine, you can have a few more minutes".
As promised, James gave me a few more minutes of sleep before waking me up again. "Alright, come on you, get up, I have things planned," he tells me. I sigh "sleeping?". He chuckles "no, just get up, or I will make you". "How exactly would you do that?" I question. I feel the covers being ripped off me. "James!" I yell. He laughs evilly as I feel myself being lifted bridal style. Before I could protest, he runs out of the room and downstairs with me in his arms. He throws me onto the sofa before landing on top of me. "You know, I could just go back to sleep right here" I remind him. "No! Don't go to sleep, y/n" he whines. I smile "all alright, fine".
After a few hours, I am finally ready to go out. I don't have anything special on, I just have a nice top and jeans with a black cardigan. I'm not much of a dressy person. James takes me to the car and I am going to say he looks rather dashing in his black suit. Yes, I'm underdressed, but I guess it's fine. James helps me into the car, like the gentleman he is, then jogs round to the driver's side. It takes us the whole afternoon to get to the place. "James, as much as I trust you, where are we?" I ask. He chuckles "that's for me to know and for you to find out, soon". The reason I am confused is that we aren't at a fancy restaurant like I expected, we're outside a park gate. I know he has planned something, he wouldn't have taken me all the way here to see a park for nothing, especially when we live right across from one.
We get out of the car and James takes my hand. "Why are we here?" I question. He laughs "stop asking questions". I sigh as I let him lead me to wherever he's taking me. We walk through the park, it looks like no one is there. I soon feel him gently squeeze my hand, making me stop to look at him. "What?" I say. He smiles softly "nothing, but I would greatly appreciate it if you would follow me this way". I nod and follow him through the trees. When we stop, it's almost like we're in the middle of the trees and there's a picnic set out on the grass. "James..." I start. He smiles "what is it?". "When did you..." I pause. He chuckles lightly as he takes both of my hands, pulling me closer to him. "I wanted to do something special for your birthday, I have more surprises... but I'm afraid none of them includes just us" he answers. I raise an eyebrow "what is that supposed to mean?". He chuckles "well, I was expecting more of a positive reaction, but it means that you don't need to worry about anything tonight". I smile "thank you, Jamie".
He smirks "that's new, did you just call me Jamie?". I blush "no, I s-said James, maybe you should get your ears checked". He chuckles as he brings me closer to him "shut it, I think it's cute". We sit on the blanket and that's when I notice the view. The sun is just starting to set and we get an amazing view of the sunset. I smile to myself when I feel James pretending to fall on his side behind me. I look at him "smooth". He laughs "hey, I wasn't meant to fall, that was the only thing tonight that wasn't planned". "Uh-huh, sure" I reply sarcastically. He chuckles as he sits up, leaning on his hand, which makes his chest touch my back, the way he's sitting. James starts taking the food out of the basket for us to eat and pours us each a cup of sparkling peach flavoured water.
After eating, I lean back into James's chest. I look at the sunset, the sun can still be seen but it's almost fully covered by the hills in the distance, leaving orange, yellow, purple, blue and pink hues in the sky. "So, why did you choose this park when we live right across from one?" I ask. He chuckles "well, I knew there'd be people there". I smile but don't say anything. A comfortable silence fills the air as we watch the sun disappear from the sky. "What are you thinking about?" He asks. I smile up at him "just how I have the best boyfriend ever". He raises an eyebrow "? I would love to meet him". I chuckle "Well, maybe I can introduce you to him. Although I have to warn you, he can be a bit protective of me". He smiles as he leans closer to me "I think I could handle him". His forehead rests against mine. "Really? I don't think you could" I reply. He chuckles "he sounds like a great guy". I shrug "yeah, he is... but, I'm pretty sure he's gay". He sighs "love, I could do this all night, but unfortunately, we don't have all night, so you should probably kiss me now while you have the chance". I feel my face grow warm but I refuse to acknowledge it. "What makes you think I'm going to kiss you?" I question. "Because, if you don't, I will" he mumbles before softly pressing his lips against mine. I kiss him back as he puts his hand on my cheek. All that firework rubbish is nonsense, it's a tingling in my chest that I feel. He pulls away, tucking a piece of my hair behind my ear. I blush, making a smirk dance on his lips. I look away from him (probably making his smirk grow bigger) "I think we should... get going now" I stutter. "Okay" he chuckles softly before helping me up.
Before I could go anywhere, however, he quickly picks me up bridal style. "Miss. Y/n, would you allow me to carry you?" He asks in an English accent, much like his Charles Xavier. "Well, I suppose I don't have a choice" I reply. He smiles "good because I was going to do it anyway". I laugh as he begins to walk back the way we came. I wrap my arms around his shoulders and sigh. He kisses my cheek before letting me lean against his chest. "James, how many surprises are there?" I ask. He smiles "I may have a few up my sleeve". I sigh, this is going to be a long night.
Later
James parks the car in front of a restaurant. I raise an eyebrow "James, why are we at a restaurant? We just ate". He chuckles "well, I think you should eat more". "What?" I question. He smiles "just come with me". I sigh "fine". We get out of the car and I follow him to the door. "That's weird, the lights are off" James acknowledges. "Maybe they're closed" I reply, referring to how late it is, almost 10:00. He chuckles "I don't think so". He opens the door and everything is pitch black. I take his hand "the light will be here somewhere" he says. "James, I don't think this is a good idea" I sigh. He chuckles "is anything a good idea?... ah, here it is". The lights come on and people jump out shouting surprise, which almost gives me a heart attack. I hit James's arm "I hate you". He smiles cheekily "we'll see about that". I look at everyone and start to recognise them. The X-Men cast, my friends. I then see my parents, brothers and sister, whom I haven't seen since last year. I let go of James to hug them. When I get to my mum, tears appear in my eyes. "How did you get here?" I ask her. She smiles, her eyes shining with tears as well "it was all James, sweetie". I turn around to hug him. "How did you do that?" I whisper. He chuckles as he pulls away, holding me at arm's length "Shh, I told you I wanted to make this night special for you". He wipes my tears away.
I greet all of my friends and thank everyone for coming. By the end of the party, almost everyone has left. It's just the cast and my family now. I had so much fun and I couldn't have asked for anything more. That's when James comes over to me. "Can I talk to you?" He asks. I nod "sure". He sighs deeply before taking my hands "I have another surprise for you". "No, James, you have done enough, I couldn't be any happier" I reply. He smirks "I bet you could". "Just let me speak" he adds. I nod and he starts.
"Okay, I know we've only been together for a year and a half, that's why this isn't a proposal. Y/n, I want to spend the rest of my life with you, I know that much. You are the only one I want to be with. I can't imagine my life with anyone else. I want to marry you, have kids with you and die with you. I am so in love with you, and I will spend the rest of my life trying to make you feel the same way".
I look at him in shock "you... love me?". He chuckles "that's all you got from that?". I smile "I love you too, James". He pulls me closer to him. I am shorter, so I have to stand on my toes as I wrap my arms around his neck. He smiles as he wraps his arms around my waist "Have I ever told you how beautiful you are?". I blush lightly "yes, I believe you have". He raises an eyebrow "? I don't seem to recall". "James, don't you dare" I warn playfully. He chuckles "what?". I sigh "you have made me blush way too much today". "I thought that was a good thing" he tilts his head slightly. "Not to me" I pout. "Aww, well that's a shame, I guess I have no choice now" he smiles cheekily. I pout even more "Jamie". He chuckles "all right". He holds his hands up in defence. I lean up to kiss him, I should've done it earlier anyway. I feel him smile against my lips as he kisses me back. I pull away "Thank you, James. This has been the best night of my life". His arms return to where they were before "Oh, believe me, that was only the start of it, just wait til next year". I smile, shaking my head "you still want to meet my boyfriend?". He chuckles "I'd love to".
We went home soon after that and watched a few movies before falling asleep on the sofa together.
