Walking up the street, I rub my upper arm. Not because I'm cold, I'm just nervous. I'm nervous to see James, we haven't seen each other for a while because he was working on a new film and couldn't get time off, so he's taking me out tonight since filming is over. We've been seeing each other for a while now, it's not official but I like him a lot. I feel my heart in my mouth when I see him leaning against the cinema wall on his phone. He's wearing a blue polo shirt with black jeans. I can tell he didn't do much with his hair, it's kinda messy but I like it. I take a breath before approaching him but he doesn't notice me yet so I take advantage of it to calm my nerves. "You got a girlfriend or something?" I joke making him jump. "Jesus, where'd you come from?" He chuckles. I shrug "I don't know, where'd you go?". He smiles, shaking his head at my joke as he puts his phone away. "How are you doing anyway, love?" He asks. I shrug again "I'm okay, missed you though". He nods "I missed you too". We share a quick hug and he kisses my head before pulling away to hold my hand. "So, where do you want to go?" He questions. I purse my lips in thought as we begin walking "I don't know, I thought you had somewhere for us to go". He chuckles, putting an arm around my waist pulling me closer to him "course I do, but the reservation isn't till six". I nod "okay, well we could get ice cream". He raises an eyebrow "before dinner? You're a little rebel you are". I laugh "well yeah, that's always the best time to have it". He chuckles "All alright then, ice cream it is". We begin walking in the direction of the ice cream shop. "Have you ever had ice cream before dinner?" I ask. He shakes his head "can't say I have". I gasp "you are missing out, my friend. You must've had a boring childhood". He laughs "well, I was raised by my grandparents". I chuckle "so? I was half raised by my grandparents". He tilts his head "really?". I nod "my mum and dad got divorced when I was six. My mum wasn't allowed custody of me, so it was just me, my brother, my dad and grandparents".

When we get to the ice cream parlour, James tells me to get a table while he gets the ice cream. I pick the table closest to the corner. Within a few minutes, he sits across from me with an ice cream in each hand. One mint and the other cookie dough. I smile as he gives me the cookie dough one. "How'd you remember my favourite ice cream?" I ask. He shrugs "I didn't have to think about it". I blush lightly, so I start eating the ice cream hoping it will soothe the heat in my cheeks. He chuckles at me, flashing a smile "now, what have I told you before?". I huff "well, I can't help it". He laughs, gently taking my hand from across the table. Then he brings my hand to his lips, lightly kissing my knuckles. "James, stop it" I chuckle. He smiles innocently "what?". I glare at him playfully "don't 'what' me, you know exactly what you're doing". I take my hand back making him chuckle again.

After we finish our ice cream, James pays for it (despite my protest) and we leave. He holds my hand as we enter the park gates. I start to lean into him, so he puts his arm around my waist pulling me closer to him as we walk through the park. We soon stop to sit on the grass, under a tree. My head rests on his chest as I cuddle up to him. "I missed you" I mumble, making a soft smile appear on his face. "I missed you too" he replies.

A few minutes later

"Jamie" I start. He hums in response, kissing my head. "Can you cancel the reservation?" I ask. "Why?" He questions. I huff and turn to face him "because dinners are boring and cliche. They also remind me that the night is almost over... I don't want it to be over". He smiles slightly "alright, I'll cancel it". I smile back "thank you". "I have a better idea anyway" I add. He raises an eyebrow "what's this better idea of yours then?". I stand up, then pull him up with me... which doesn't work at first, so he gets up himself. He walks to the main path that goes around the park, and I follow after him. When there's enough space between us, I take a run and jump onto his back. He wasn't expecting it, but luckily he can stop himself from toppling over. I wrap my legs around his waist, draping my arms around his neck loosely as he hoists me up so I don't fall off. He chuckles "y/n, what are you doing?". I grin widely in response "you are now acting as my horse". He laughs as he starts to walk "oh, am I now? I don't remember this being part of my contract". I shrug  "I just added it". "What if I don't want to be your horse?" He asks. "Well, tough, it's in your contract now, which you already signed, which means you can't say no. Therefore, you are my horse, now onward!" I sass. He laughs "all right then".

He suddenly starts running and my eyes widen. "James! Slow down, you're going to drop me!" I laugh. He chuckles "I'm not going to drop you. You said I'm your horse, horses like to go fast. Therefore, I shouldn't slow down". I half squeal and half-laugh at the same time as he takes off again. When he eventually slows down, I slide off his back and land on the ground. He turns around to face me, both of us breathing heavily as he wraps his arms around my waist. I do the same around his neck, standing up on my toes to reach. He huffs out of breath and sighs "what do you say we make this official?". I smile, blushing lightly "I say we should". He chuckles "now, what have I told you about getting shy around me?". I roll my eyes "shut up". I look up when I feel something drip on my head. I smile when I see the dark grey clouds covering the sky. I pull away from James as it starts to rain. "Y/n, dare I ask, what are you doing?" He jokes. I shrug "Nothing, I just like the rain". I soon feel him move closer to me, his chest touching my back as he wraps his arms around me from behind. "James, what are you doing?" I ask. He chuckles lightly "Nothing, I just like you". That makes me blush a thousand shades of red as he turns me back round to face him. I shake my head, rolling my eyes "shut up". He laughs, smiling with a slight boyish charm "Wow, didn't know I could do that". I look away from him shyly "Yeah, well no one told you to". His hand reaches up to cup my cheek, making me look at him again, just as my hair falls in front of my face. He gently brushes it behind my ear before his hand moves to my waist.

I place my hands on his chest as he leans down to kiss me. His stubble softly tickles my skin as our lips connect. As we kiss, the rain starts to get heavier. I am first to pull away, due to a shiver at the sudden change of weather. He laughs "What? Can't handle a little rain?". I smile, shaking my head "Course I can, but I can't control when I shiver". I start to walk back the way we came but he grabs my hand, pulling me back to him. "James, what-" I start. He then puts his left arm under my knees, lifting me. His right arm supporting my back. "James!" I squeal. He chuckles as he begins to walk "I may not have been taught to eat ice cream before dinner... but, I was taught how to be a gentleman". I blush, resting my head on his chest as he continues "The first thing my grandad taught me was, you never leave a damsel in distress, you help her. Whether it be struggling with a box... or, unable to walk". I furrow my eyebrows "But, I can walk". "No you can't, your legs are broken" he jokes. I shrug "Okay". He smiles before continuing to carry me.

Later

James carried me back to my house, but he puts me down when we reach the front step. Both of us look like drowned rats because of the rain that stopped about ten minutes ago. I wrap my arms around his waist for a hug, resting my head on his shoulder. "Thank you, James" I mumble. He nods, hugging me back "You're always welcome, love". I sigh before reluctantly pulling away from him. He kisses my cheek softly, then lets me go so I can unlock my door. I turn around to face him again "You can come in if you want". He smiles slightly "Why would I want to do that?". I shrug "Well, in case it rains again. Just a suggestion". He sighs "I'll be fine, y/n". "You won't be saying that when you wake up with a cold tomorrow" I reply. He steps closer to me, wrapping his arms around me, pulling me into his chest. "Y/n, what's wrong?" He sighs. I look up at him "Alright, fine. I don't want you to go, James... I know, I'm a horrible person for saying it, but I can't help it". He furrows his eyebrows "Y/n, that doesn't make you a bad person. If you don't want me to go, I won't. I'll stay here, with you". "Really?" I questions. He nods "Of course I will. I love you". I blush "I wuv you too". He chuckles "Wow, you wuv me?". I smile, nodding "Don't judge me". He holds his hands up "Hey, I'm not judging. I would never judge a child". I let him in and shut the door, glaring at him playfully "I'm not a child, I will have you know I am twenty-seven years old, a legal, responsible adult". He sighs jokingly "Please, you are a six-year-old trapped in a twenty-seven-year-old body". I shrug "Problem?". He shakes his head "Nope, no problem at all". I nod "Good, we're going to get along just fine then". He chuckles, shaking his head before sitting on the sofa.

Yes, we're going to be just fine.
