I'm lying in bed. Everyone's sound asleep. But I'm not. I'm tossing and turning, unable to catch some sleep. It's already two in the morning. Is it because of Mike? He's my father. My real father. But what do have to do now? I can't just trust him like that, can I? He's still Visioned. Full of traps.
I prick up my ears after I heard a sound. It's a crack of wood from the floor. I grab my gun from my bedside table and slink past Satori, who's still sleeping. I pass the living room to the kitchen, where I find Mike. He hears me coming and spins around so quickly I couldn't follow.
"Hey." He lifts his arms in the air. "Don't shoot."
Mike? What are you doing? I ask after I put my gun away.
"Get me something to put me to sleep. Maybe I shouldn't." He says guilty.
I would recommend cognac. It sets Peters to 12 dollars a bottle.
"Wow." He pours himself a glass and we take a seat at the table. "Look, I'm sorry for what I said before. Sometimes I let my anger do the talking." He apologises.
Yeah... I've imagined this moment for so long. All the things that I would ask... I don't even know where to begin.
"Well, you probably want to know more about your other. She was a CIA-agent."
How did you two meet? It's a typical question, but it would be nice to know.
"I got shot on a mission and left to die. She patched me up and, um... I hung around longer than I needed to."
Were you there what she died?
"No, I was a cleaner. I cleaned up after missions. I wasn't allowed to have anything to do with the CIA. Can you imagine one minute, they tell you you've got this brand new baby girl, and an hour later... We had thought about leaving the CIA and Visioned. I should have gotten her out when I had the chance. Luckily, I didn't make the same mistake with you." I see the gratitude in his eyes.
Why did you leave? Because she had a boyfriend? Was it because I made it worse for her?
"God no! I didn't blame you for that. You know how dangerous this life is. A place to raise a kid? Merel lived in London and she wanted you to stay there. She preferred to fly over for every new mission. Having to leave was the hardest thing I've ever done in my life. You were all I had left of her."
Then you never should have given up on me! He doesn't answer anymore. In fact, he doesn't say anything. I'm sorry. At times, I let my anger do the talking too.
