Black. He woke up to only black. A cold blackness that engulfed his vision, although somehow he stay warm as if tucked in tightly.
He could only remember blackness. All he remembered is his shivering vision, his frozen mind, the thoughts that cease to exist.
What could this mean? Is this life? Is he really that insignificant that his mind can only comprehend one word? Is this what he is? Nothing but, silence? Nothing but, black?
Wait, not silence... was that a car? Were there other people with him? Why could he hear voices? Had he truly gone crazy after all? And what was that constant beeping?
Then, and just then, at that very moment, he had begun to grow feeling in his limbs. His fingers remain strained, yet grew lighter with each passing second. Soon enough, his fingers were light enough to lift. He could feel them twitching.
Soon after movement in his finger became movement in his hand. The permanent curtains on his eyes begun to open up, revealing a blinding light that made him wish he had kept them closed.
Eventually the eye-piercing light became dimmer, allowing him to see figures in front of him. The one sitting next to his head in particular.
It was a woman. A woman that looked vaguely familiar. Was that... someone he knew?
As his vision grew clearer, he recognized the face in front of him with more intensity. He remembered that same face in many dreams he'd had over and over. Little dreams of her reading to him before bed, or a faint memory of her making food, or giving him a bath. All of which were... somewhat, 'motherly' things to do.
Does that mean that... perhaps... this was..
"M-mom?" His raspy voice let out in the faintest whisper. The attempt so painful that it was almost as if he hadn't spoken in years.
The woman snapped her head up, her face frozen in disbelief. Although it didn't take long for the fountains in her eyes to erupt and spill down her face.
"J...J-Jungkook..." his mother said in pure shock, her shaky hands reaching up to grasp his own bony ones. "Oh s-sweetie..." his mom sat on the floor and began to sob into the side of his bed, "You've waited so long to come back t-to me.."
Her head suddenly snapped back up, "Seong-hyeon!" She suddenly yelled "If you don't get in here right now you're dead in five seconds!" She said, tears still running down her face as if they had no end. Although, his mother was smiling now.
Soon after she called a man came bursting into the room, his alarmed expression giving off the impression that he thought something bad had happened. His eyes immediately filled with tears when he made eye contact with the boy.
"Don't just stand there," his mom yelled, tears still in her eyes as well, go get a doctor!"
The man, someone who Jungkook now recognized as his father, finally unfroze. "Oh...r-right!" His dad yelled as he stumbled out of the doorway and into the hall. Even from inside the room, you could hear his desperate words, "I need a doctor in here! Or a nurse, or a- a somebody! Please, my son is awake!"
"Can you follow my light please, Jungkook?" The doctor said as he turned on a small light in his hand and pointed it in his eyes. Jungkook did his best to follow the light, even though it pained him to look directly into the beam with his weak and adjusting vision.
"So, can you tell me the last thing you remember, Jungkook?" The doctor said gently, examining his eyes. The boy thought kind of hard about this.
"I don't really have a 'last memory' kind of thing. It's more like... I just know my family and I recognize stuff that are familiar. I also have some odd memories of random stuff, but I can't really remember specific things."
The doctor paused, taking a moment to jot something down on his clipboard with a ballpoint pen resting behind his ear. "I see..."
"Now, Jungkook," The doctor continued, still wildly curious about the boy in front of him, "What year do you think it is?"
"Oh, well it's..." Jungkook looked up, thinking of the possibility that maybe he had been sleeping for a few months, maybe it was the next year already. Just the thought of himself being in a coma made him shiver. He never in a million years would have thought that he would be the one in a hospital bed with others crying over him.
He suddenly came to realize how long his legs had gotten, and how... deep his voice had lowered. His eyes suddenly widened in disbelief.
"No way... how long have I...?" Jungkooks mother started to cry once more, his father rubbing her back in attempt to comfort her. His dad took a slow, deep breath. "Jungkook..."
"It's been almost five years.."
