"Jennie, what do I do?"
"What do you mean?" She stops fiddling with her laptop from the bed to look at you and how you tap at your desk absentmindedly. "What's wrong? Did the interview go shittily or something?"
You shake your head. "It's not that. It went okay. I mean it was rocky as first since we're not really used to being around each other. And he's not the most open person, so I can see why he was kind of struggling to answer some of my personal questions. I think I didn't help with the spot I chose though."
"Where did you—? Did you go to the coffee shop?" When you nod, she taps her chin. "Did you ask if that's where he wanted to go?" You shake your head. "You probably should've asked if that was okay. Maybe he doesn't like that it can feel kinda stuffy sometimes."
"Yeah, he said that. I guess we could go outside? But where?"
"Hmm. I don't think that would be so bad. Going outside. You can talk to him freely as you guys walk around downtown or something. Just anywhere that doesn't make him feel all suffocated and stuff. It seems like he's willing to work with you, so that's good."
You shrug after reconsidering her words. "I think it's just 'cuz his professor is making him somehow. Jungkook said something like that earlier."
"Still, maybe that nice guy is in there after all. And he was just having a bad moment when you spilled coffee on him."
You hate to consider her words. You hate that she might be right about him and you, though you can't deny that maybe it should be that way. A large part of you doesn't want to believe that Jungkook is some asshole who gets off on being a dick to everyone he meets, and it isn't like there aren't people who don't think he's a decent human being. Professor Jung obviously thinks highly of him. He's in a fraternity, so his Beta Tau Sigma brothers must get along with him, otherwise he wouldn't be in a name on their website either. And, well, you thought he was a decent person at some point too. Perhaps you aren't wrong about him either.
You don't have a moment to think otherwise because your ringtone goes off and Jungkook's name pops up.
You slide to answer and chuckle, "Well, speak of the devil and he shall appear huh?"
"Who's the devil? Me?" Jennie glances at you just to snicker and turns away to tap away at her laptop for one of her assignments. If she lingered a moment longer, she would've seen you roll your eyes but you put your focus now on Jungkook.
"I don't think there's any other devil here, Jeon."
He snorts, "Well, there is you."
"Then, does that mean I'm right to assume that you've been talking about me?"
"...N-no. Shut up." He tries to brush you off, but you can't help but laugh.
"I'm kidding. What's up?"
"Erm, well, I just called to—um—let you know my schedule since we should meet when it works for the both of us. Between the film, classes, and this, I'll have to set aside time from filming to let you interview me, so I'd just like to make sure we have things straight."
"Yeah, that's valid." You glance at your desk planner for any vacant spots. At least the doable kind like a day where you only have a class to worry about and not some big assignment or upcoming deadlines for the draft for this damn thing. Now that you've updated it with all the newspaper due dates given to you by Yeri, you can feel the slight pressure to get this right. Next to interviewing Jungkook, you still need to write up a draft, then a manuscript for printing, and show him and Yeri before it's finalized for actual printing. "How's this weekend sound to you? I'm free all of Saturday, Sunday too if you don't like Saturday. I just need one of those days for homework."
He paused for a moment, shuffling around some things while muttering Saturday before he seems to find what he's looking for. "Yeah, that works. Alright. Same time as today?"
"Yeah, let's meet in the Quad this time." This time Jennie clears her throat and throws a pointed glare your way. "I—I mean is that alright?"
"Oh, okay. Yeah, that's fine by me."
"Alright, I'll see you then."
"Yeah, see you."
"See," Jennie says, with a shit-eating grin. God, you hate that she's right. He didn't sound that bad at all. In fact, that was awfully considerate of him to call and finalize the plans with you. "Now, am I still on probation, honey?"
"Shut up. We'll see how it goes before I start letting you off."
