"I'm sorry ma'am, we are out of ginger."

Genji grabbed a small coin pouch from the counter. He ran bumping into a large crowd of people.

"Hey! Hashi! Koga! Stop that damn boy!"

Genji began panting as he ran. He looked behind him to see two teenage boys running after him. He tried to get lost in the crowd, but it was no use. They were faster than him. He gasped when he felt a tight grip on the back off his shirt. Genji jolted back and was picked up by the shirt. He stared frightened into the eyes of a teenage boy who spat at his face.

"What the hell do you think you are doing ya little brat?! This is the last time you steal from our father!"

Genji started to sob hard. The noy hesitated for a moment and chuckled.

"What a whimp!"

The boy threw his fist back ready to punch. Genji winced closing his eyes, but he heard a loud groan and the grip on his shirt was loose. He fell to the ground. Looking up he saw Hanzo in front of him and the boy was on the ground wiping blood from his nose. His brother was behind him.

"Do not lay your hands on my brother again. Do you understand, Koga?" Hanzo warned.

Koga's brother stepped in furious and swung a punch at Hanzo. Hanzo avoided the punch and sent Hashi to the ground. Hashi grunted in pain and looked up at Hanzo frightened this time. Hanzo chuckled a bit.

"This is your final warning. You guys should go home before I kill you both."

Koga and Hashi quickly scrambled to their feet and ran away. Hanzo sighed and looked towards the ground. Genji looked up at him still sobbing.

"H-Hanzo, I-I..."

Hanzo picked up the coin pouch from the ground. He turned around and looked down at Genji.

"Why are you stealing Genji? Father is rich."

Genji looked down solemnly.

"He won't give me money to play at the arcade."

"So you steal?"

"That's what father does."

"That is different brother. Father is a business man. You are a 12 year old boy who wastes his time playing video games when he should be training."

It was quiet for a while.

"Hanzo, you know I'm...scared."

"You need to train for situations like this. If I wasn't here, Hashi and Koga would have killed you. You must learn to defend yourself."

"I like using a sword, brother."

"We'll talk about this another time. It is getting late. Let's go home."

Genji stood up and rubbed his eyes tiredly. He climbed onto Hanzo's back and Hanzo walked him back to Shimada palace. Hanzo walked through the palace silently, but rurned the corner into a stiff body. Hanzo took a step back a d looked up at his father's fowl gaze.

"And where exactly did you two go?" Sojiro asked sterny.

Hanzo trembled a bit. Genji started to wake up from his back. Genji rubbed his eyes awake to see that Hanzo had stopped in front of their father. His eyes went wide in fear.

"We....um....we were at the arcade. I wanted Genji to show me the games that he has the highest scores in." Hanzo lied.

Sojiro nodded and put a hand to Hanzo's shoulder.

"Let's take your brother to bed."

Hanzo and Sojiro walked Genji to his room and put him to bed. Hanzo shut the door behind him. All of a sudden he felt a firm grip on his hand. His father swung Hanzo's hand in front of him. Sojiro looked at his hand angrily to see blood residue. He threw Hanzo's arm down and punched his ear tightly. Hanzo winced in pain.

"Did you get into a fight?! No son of mine should be starting quarrel!"

"Gah! It wasn't me father!" Hanzo exclaimed. His father finally relased his grip. Hanzo grabbed at his pulsing ear and looked at his father sternly. "A boy tried to hurt Genji at the arcade, so I hurt him first."

"What happened?!"

"Genji was playing a game when this boy tried to shove him away. When Genji didn't move the boy attempted to take a swing at him, so I stopped him and we left."

Sojiro looked down at Hanzo blankly and sighed. He pulled Hanzo towards him hugging him tightly.

"I'm sorry my son. Thankyou for protecting your brother."

He pulled away for a bit resting his hands on Hanzo's shoulders and grinning.

"Off to bed. You both train for the elders tomorrow."

"Yes father."

----------

Loud grunts came from the temple room. Bamboo sticks made loud cracks as they were swung into eachother. Hanzo whispered to Genji as they fought.

"Genji! C'mon! The elders are watching."

Genji stood up and took a weak swing at Hanzo with his bamboo stick. Hanzo bloxked it fast and sweeped Genji's feet sending him to the mat. Genji's body thudded to the floor. He grunted in pain and bursted into tears. Hanzo gasped and threw his bamboo stick down to help his brother. Sojiro also came over to see if Genji was alright. The elders observed from the other end of the temple. They all shook their heads.

"That boy is immature and unsightly."

"He will dishonor us all."

Hanzo finally got Genji to stand. He was still wiping tears from his face. Sojiro looked down at his son and then up at the elders.

"That's enough for today. We must go."

The elders nodded abruptly and walked out of the temple. Hanzo helped Genji to his room. He sat on the bed and Hanzo saw Genji's bruised knee.

"It hurts Hanzo."

"I know, I know it does. Let me get some ice ok."

"Brother! I-I don't like the pain."

"Just hold on."

Hanzo ran to get ice and came back placing it to Genji's knee.

"We must train more, so you can get used to the pain."

Genji gasped and looked up at his brother.

"I don't want to train anymore!"

"Huh? Genji you must. Father wants to know that you can defend yourself."

"I'm too scared. Too scared of the pain. If I was fighting, I would just want to die."

Hanzo gasped. That comment frightened him. He knelt down to his brother.

"Genji, don't ever talk like that, understand? If you can defend yourself you should. If you learned to defend yourself you would win every fight. No pain required. You must attack first."

Genji sighed and looked down.

"Ok, just don't hurt me."

"Never."
