Falling in love is always part choice. No one falls in love without wanting to, and without actively doing it. It should really be called “jumping into love,” if people were honest.

And it’s only partly true that people stay together by choice. They certainly can’t CHOOSE to stay in the “in love” condition. That condition is dependent on NOT really seeing your mate for who and what they are. Plus, it’s physically draining, so anyone who stays IN LOVE for any length of time will eventually lose their job, starve, or otherwise have their health fail.

The only element in that that has some truth to it, is that it IS entirely luck, whether you meet someone who is a good match for you, at a time in each of your lives, and place in the world, where you can both do something about it.
