Chapter 9
No one ever warned me about crazy ex-lovers of the prince stalking me. Let alone me being pregnant and dealing with the stress of her appearing outside of my window. Father has contacted Zepher and he should be arriving in a few days time, until then I will wait, locked up in our tiny little abode, praying that Tagar can protect us from the crazy elf. Days passed and I spent my time trying to use my magic to hear the baby, or at least find out if it was a boy or a girl. But because its royal the only magic that can penetrate it’s own, is it’s father, who seems to think it’s hilarious to keep things from me when it concerns our young one.
One thing that I have been forewarned about, is baby elves tend to grow quikly, and their magic is so unpredictable that every pregnancy lasts for varying amounts of time. For instance, Zepher was born after five months, and I after eleven. It seemed that our little one, after only four months was almost full grown. My belly growing leaps and bounds every day. The day before Zepher was to arrive I felt the first kick, and it almost made me jump up and squeal.
“Feel mother feel!” I exclaimed running up to her. She quickly did so with a smug little smile on her face.
“It seems as though this little one is almost ready to come out.” She said softly her eyes showing happiness. Whether my mother liked to admit it or not, this baby was a joy to everyone, even if she hated Zepher. It was that night that things seemed to go downhill. It was like any other night, father patrolled around our cottage, mother tidied around down stairs, I could hear her humming, and making tea on the stove. I once again went to my window and looked down into the woods, nothing stirred and I blamed my own mind for tricks. It was far past sundown so I went to lie down for a bit, knowing Zepher would be here either tonight or early morning made me anxious. But as soon as my face curled into my pillow, I knew I was a goner, from that point forward I don’t really remember much. You see Daminia had snuck into my room somehow, no one is really sure. She must have poisoned me, or cast a spell, that too we are unsure of. But I slept for almost two days before Zepher arrived. He knew something was wrong the moment it happened, he had felt it through our bond.
“Where is Rayne?” He half yelled at my mother when he barged through the door.
“In her room, your majesty!” She yelled at him, thinking nothing was wrong, just that I was tired.
“Something’s wrong get help.” He stated running up the small staircase and pushed through the door to find Daminia standing over my unconscious body.
“Well, well, I finally got to you Zepher.” She said laughing while running her hand over my baby.
“How dare you Daminia!” he screamed walking to her with all his smug magic, his hand grabbed her throat as he slammed her against the wall.
“I had to do this Zepher, so we could be together, you needed to let her go, and that half-breed child.” She said this as if it was simple, as if the love Zepher and I shared was nothing.
“She is my world, Daminia, she will Never be replaced by you. She may not be full Elf, but she is the love of my life, you have betrayed your King, your future Queen and I sentence you to death.” Before she could mutter another word Zepher shot magic through her body that made her age. Her body became ash as it fell to the floor. He quickly ran to my side, running his hand covered in magic over my body. The doctor had already come through the door and was trying to push past him. Zepher of course would not have that, “I can help her, step back!” he yelled his magic become stronger, the whole room was eloped in his blue presence. My mothe,r was at the door, her face completely scared with Tagar right behind her. Zepher’s magic connected with my, drawing out the poison that had begun killing me, he took it all and threw it into the mass that was Daminia’s ash. He used his magic to heal my body, he saved me.
When I awoke, the first thing I noticed was my slip was no longer on, and my wrap was very loose, also my stomach had grown to almost obnoxious size. Zepher’s arm was draped across me and his long hair was let loose. I smiled, I couldn’t remember him coming home. That’s when he decided to wake with his blue eyes stairing up at me, much like that first morning. That’s when he told me. He told me what Daminia did, how she ambushed the house, how he bairly got here in time, how he killed her. I went into shock, and my first thought was the baby.
“Is the baby okay?” I asked running my hand down over my massive stomach.
“Yes.” He said with a slight chuckle, “The baby has been kicking the hell out of me all night.” His eyes filled with fatherly love as he ran his large hand over my swollen stomach. Maybe my world was right at that very moment, and maybe my life was finally on course. That night Zepher received word that the humans had backed down, clearly they were outmatched. Two weeks later, the big event happened.
