~Step out step out of the sun if you keep getting burned~
"Hey." Jared greeted as Evan entered the school doors.
"H-hey Jared..." Evan mumbled.
Jared's eyes trailed towards Evans arm. He laughed, having a weird look on his face.
"What happened to your arm?" Jared questioned.
"Oh-I, I broke it. By accident of course! Why w-would I break it on purpose?" Evan stuttered out.
"No fucking duh you broke it. How?"
"I-I fell out of a tree! P-pretty funny right?" Evan gave out an awkward laugh, feeling his face heat up.
"What are you, an acorn?" Jared laughed.
Evans cheeks reddened and began to walk towards his locker. He put in his locker combination and took out his books.
He hadn't talked to his soulmate at all during the summer, which really bummed him out. It didn't really matter though. It's not like they ever replied. Maybe it was for the best, he couldn't help but feel bad for whoever was stuck with him. He was just this awkward, weird, anxious person who panicked at the thought of calling to order pizza. Anyone else deserved someone better than what he was.
He gave out a sigh, maybe he shouldn't talk to his soulmate anymore after his cast was taken off. It's not like they'd be losing anything. They'd could go their separate ways.
"Hello? Earth to Evan?" Jared asked, snapping his fingers in front of Evans' face.
He flinched, "S-sorry. I was thinking t-too much again."
Jared hummed in agreement, but someone quickly caught his attention.
Connor Murphy.
Jared gave out a low whistle, "Connor, lovin' the new hair length, very school shooter chic."
Shut up Jared, Evan pleaded in his mind.
Connor only stared at him, almost in a murderous look, but his face looked neutral. It was as if he was sending silent daggers to Jared.
"It was just- I was just kidding. It was a joke?" Jared all but squeaked out.
"Yeah- no it was funny. I'm laughing can't you tell?" Connor asserted, slowly walking towards them, "Am I not," he advanced towards him, "laughing hard enough for you?" He spoke, his voice sharp.
Connor was glaring at Jared now, his voice loud. Evan could hear his heart hammering all the way to his ears.
"You're such a freak," Jared gave out a scoff and quickly turned to leave.
Good job Jared, Evan thought as he gave out a small nervous laugh.
Connors head quickly snapped to him and he opened his mouth about to yell at him when Evan quickly cut in,
"I-I I'm s-sorry! I wa-wasn't laughing at you! I-I swear! I just found it... it funny that J-Jared knows I-I don't like t-talking to people and he leaves!" Evan rambled, his hands sweating like crazy, his face red, and knees weak.
Connor Murphy stared at him for a few moments and quickly pushed past him. He hit his arm and Evan yelped out in pain, dropping his books on the floor. Connor turned back to look at him.
He's probably judging you Evan, you dumb loser.
"Y-you just hit my a-arm. It's o-okay though,'' Evan quietly said as he bent over to pick up his stuff.
He heard Connor sigh and suddenly saw him kneeling in front of him, helping him with his books.
"Y-you don't h-have to. I-I can-"
"I know you can. But what kind of a person would I be if I didn't help someone with a cast?"
Evan nodded and finished picking up the few things that had fallen and stood up. Suddenly the bell rung and Evans eyes widened drastically.
"T-thank you! But I'm already l-late. I have to go! See you C-Connor," Evan exclaimed as he took the rest of the books from Connors hands. Connor noticed the faint marks on Evans wrist and frowned.
"H-hey-" Connor started, but didn't get to say anything because suddenly Evan was quickly walking down the hall way. As Evan was about to turn the corner, he quickly shot him a small smile.
Connor couldn't help but smile back.
