~Step out step out of the sun if you keep getting burned~

"Do you like trees?"

"What?"

"N-nothing never mind that was a... a stupid question I was just curious because I really like t-trees but that doesn't mean a-anyone does. J-Jared says it's dumb so s-sorry I shouldn't have said a-anything. Your probably think I'm r-really stupid now I-"

"I do," Connor stated.

"W-What?" Evan questioned perplexed.

"What did you just ask Hansen?" Connor said as a faint blush coated his cheeks. He was trying to hide it by looking at anywhere but Evans direction. Which was pretty hard considering he was driving.

Evans eyes widened, "O-oh! Yeah okay. I like trees too."

Connor noticed a small smile on Evans face as he looked out the window. He tried to pretend the sight of Evan didn't warm his heart. Evan reminded him of a child. Trees? Yeah Connor liked them, he liked drawing them and painting them but Evan seemed to have an appreciation and adoration for trees. Almost as if they were his whole life.

"Have you found them?" Connor asked.

"W-who?" Evan replied.

Connor didn't say anything, hoping he'd catch on.

Evans eyes widened in realization, "Oh... oh! Oh no- no I haven't."

Connor nodded, "Do you believe in them?"

Evan furrowed his eyebrows in confusion, "Y-yeah of course. I-I think everyone has one."

Connor shook his head, "I mean, do you believe in the whole concept of them. The fact that one can't live without the other- that they're made for each other? That if one dies the other loses their purpose?"

Connor noticed the look of concentration that suddenly swept on Evans face. His bottom lip seemed to pout in almost a frown, his eyes were slightly narrowed and his nose slightly wrinkled.

"I think that- that maybe it's almost like stars in a night sky. I-I think they provide light for each other when the others in a dark place. And even if the o-other persons happy, the stars are always there. They don't ever leave the sky," Evan suddenly saw Connor parked me staring at him and felt a blush come to his face, "B-but maybe t-that's all just s-stupid and I don't know what I'm t-talking about. I wouldn't k-know since mine i-ignores me and I-I'm sorry I'm stupid I-"

"Hansen calm down it's fine. I kinda get it though I kinda just," Connor rested his head back on the drivers seat, "my parents are soulmates and they're not exactly the lovey dovey type? All they seem to do it argue which just perfectly portrays it right? If I ever find mine... I don't think I could handle having this idea in my mind and being disappointed."

Evan nodded, "My parents-" Evans eyes widened and looked away, "N-nothing never mind."

Connor noticed the sad expression that had made onto Evans face and quickly tried to change the subject, "Well, when you do find yours, I hope they loves trees as much as you do. And they're an asshole for ignoring you."

Evan nodded, as he opened the door, "T-thank you for the ride Connor."

Connor bit the bottom of his lips in hesitation and spoke again , "Hey, wait."

Evan who had began to walk towards his house turned, "Y-yeah?"

"I'll give you my number- you know, in case Jared's an asshole again," Connor scoffed, "like this morning."

Evans eyes widened and he looked down in embarrassment,"I'm really sorry about h-him. He really doesn't...think?"

"Why do you even hang out with him if acts like such a dick?" Connor asked looking for something to write with in the car.

Evan shrugged, "He's the only person who hangs out with me. Even if he tells me it's only for his car insurance I guess it's better to have someone than be alone."

"Friends shouldn't do that," Connor said with a scoff.

"Well... not many people wanna be my friend," Evan mumbles.

Connor frowned, as he motioned for Evans arm. Evan looked at him in confusion, and Connor explained, "Where am I gonna write my number?"

Hesitantly, Evan let him write his number down on his arm. He tried to hide the scars of his soulmate, he wasn't sure if Connor saw anything, but if he did, he didn't say anything about it. Connor made Evan write his number on his arm as well. Shakily, Evan did.

Evan waved goodbye as he began walking to his house and unlocking the door. He walked to his room and through his stuff on the floor as he flopped on his bed. He let out a deep sigh, school always tired him out.

As he began to doze off he heard a notification go off on his phone. A message.

He groaned as he stood up and made his way towards his bag, taking out his phone and reading the message from an unknown number. Evan couldn't help but smile,

I'll be your friend.
