"So you and Roxana added two more boys in your list within 10 minutes of lunch", I summarized to my boy crazy friend Merve holding up two fingers.
"Yea basically", she nodded
We were sitting in our usual spot during the lunch hour. Very close to the cafeterias exit doors that lead to the lower floor hallway. In front of where the twelfth grade rugby boys sat, beside the place that sells some good caff food and a few steps away from the vending machine. OUR spot. We usually are accompanied by Roxana, Emily, Ellie and other girls. Sometimes Patricia would come when she is not sitting with her "Buddies" on day one (even though she does not have any classes with them). I kind of grew apart from Patricia when she forgave her "Buddies" from being mean and leaving her out. It didn't really hurt me because I could always go back to my other friends. But also I became closer with Merve afterwards so I guess everything worked out fine.
It was a typical June afternoon in FHCI were she would go boy crazy and talk about the alphabet that was strictly off limits to any outsiders that were not Roxana of her and once in a while me.
"Why did you guys even make up an alphabet that has boys in our school that you know you won't get", Ellie questioned
Merve pondered for a second before opening her mouth and closing it again but before she could go on Roxana had already stepped and answered "Well because boys are awesome", the Romanian girl said confidently. Ellie nodded at that a bit unsure and looked like she wanted to question further but left it at that.
"Uh-oh Roxanne's dude at 3:00", Merve announced. I looked up from my lunch and sure enough he was there walking towards his table where he regularly sat giving me a perfect view of his face. Scruffy brown bleached hair, joyful blue eyes and amazing smile. I gaped at him and followed his steps for a few more seconds before looking back at my friends.
"Act like your having a good time"
"How?", Emily said
"Just laugh along but not too loud and don't sound like a dying seagull" I stated saying the last part to Merve
"What! I don’t sound like that when I'm laughing"
"Then don't laugh at all"
"Why not"
"I don't want him to think I have friends with issues"
"Well then I'll just laugh lightly", she concluded
"Fine by me ", I dismissed "Okay ready now. . . start", with that said the whole table broke out into fits of laughter. Maybe to other people it sounded odd but at least this got him to look up at our table and not pay any more attention to his own table conversation. I caught his gaze and immediately looked away laughing a bit more. When he stopped gazing and lost interest of our laughing fits, I decided to cut off the laughter.
"What's his name anyway?", Roxana asked
"Oh I'll write it down for you give me a second", I said bringing out a piece of notebook paper and a pen. "Why don't you tell all of us?", Emily gestured to the group
"Well its kinda secret", I said writing down the unknown boys name. In somewhat neat writing I printed the Name Brett. W. I showed her the paper and her mouth turned into an O shaped and she nodded understandingly.
"Well it's not really secretive since I know it", Merve stepped in
"Fine can you at least tell me?",Emily pushed further
"Umm Emily some things are meant to be kept private maybe she doesn't want to tell you", Merve bluntly spoke rolling her eyes. I gave her a look that said "Not now" and everything went silent.
