Hiccup
Something whizzed towards me in a blur of motion. Instinctively, I snatched it from the air. It was Astrid's axe.
"And what exactly do y-you think you're doing?" I asked. "Your dragon killed my friend!" she yelled, struggling to escape her current position grasped in Stormfly's claws. "She tried to kill you." the Nadder noted. "Should I drop her?" I sighed. This is exactly what I needed right now. "Don't, unless she tries to attack you. And Astrid, Toothless h-hasn't killed anyone.""Are they seriously blaming me for your 'death'?" Toothless sighed. "We should have made it look like a wild animal did it." I shrugged. "Seemed like a good idea at the time." I could practically sense him rolling his eyes. "Tell her that I said to shut up." Unfortunately all of the gang were yelling about Night Furies, promises and avenging my death, so I couldn't pass it on. "EVERYBODY SHUT UP!" I screamed, reverting to Dragonese in my exasperation. The shock factor of being screeched at by a human shut them up long enough for me to talk. "Toothless didn't kill your c-cousin. He's been w-with me for the past six years." Too late, I realised that my statement was very easy to misinterpret.
"Hiccup's with you?" Astrid gasped, staring at me like I'd just told her I was Odin in disguise. I sighed. "I meant Toothless. I have no i-idea who this 'Hiccup' that you're trying to a-avenge is, but Toothless didn't kill him. Sorry, wrong s-suspect." Toothless snorted. "You have no idea who Hiccup is? Should I be worried about amnesia?"
The gang didn't seem to like my explanation. "There's only one Night Fury." Astrid stated, crossing her arms. "So either you're lying, or Hiccup's still alive. Considering the fact that we can't trust your word, I'm going with the first option." She was unfortunately right (about the Furies, not me being dead). I'd never seen another dragon like Toothless, and I'd seen dragons of all different descriptions over the past few years.
I shrugged. "Do what you like. But the other dragons will drop you into the sea if you attack Toothless. From this height, you wouldn't survive the fall. Oh, and I'm holding the axe hostage."No response. I fiddled with the weapon as we flew on towards Berk, tracing the carvings on the hilt. It looked strangely familiar to me, almost like I'd seen it before..."So she kept it." I snorted, memories of the past washing over me. I'd made the axe as a gift fifteen years ago. Too shy to talk much, I'd simply told Astrid 'Gobber made it' before running away. Six-year-old me had harboured a hopeless crush on the Shield Maiden, one that had persisted until I ran away. I would be lying if I said that I hadn't thought about her from time to time. But Berk rarely crossed my mind anymore. That is, until running into them again.
Absently, I wondered what the Berkians were doing. I envisioned fishing, weaponmaking, maybe even preparing for battle. The real truth was so much farther from what I'd expected....
Berk, a few hours earlier...
Stoick
I paced the floor of Gothi's hut, my feet thumping on the well-worn planks. The teens still hadn't returned, and I was out of my mind with worry. "They could've been held up?" Gobber suggested, trying to lighten the mood. "It's been two weeks, Gobber. They should have been back by now. Either their ship sank, or Alvin has 'em." If Alvin had captured them, we would be out of options. Taking the Book of Dragons could be dismissed, but imprisoning the warriors of Berk couldn't be ignored. We would have to make war, and the island wasn't prepared. Berk hadn't fought anything in years, not since the dragons stopped raiding. The elder sat on a stool, staring off into the distance. It was the first time in years that she'd used her second sight, the extremely unreliable power to see across space and time. Suddenly she shook her head violently as she returned to reality. Her staff sketched frantic patterns in the writing sand, almost too fast for Gobber to interpret. "She says she sees five wagons." He yelped as she whacked him. "Ow! Dragons. She sees five dragons flying towards Berk. They come without bad...intense? Ow! Intent! Bad intent. They bring the teens and a armoured rider. Do not attack him, for he is the key to finding the lost chair, Ow! Heir of Berk."
"The lost heir?" I mused. "Does she mean Astrid?" Gothi shook her head, drawing more pictographs in the sand. "She means Hiccup." Gobber translated, looking shocked.
"She sees him alive, in the land where only the dragons go."A/N: 🎶 dramatic music plays 🎶 DUN DUN DUN!
