"Ran into a old friend yesterday, caught me by surprise when he called my name. He was a familiar face, from a chapter in my past. Talked for a while, asked how it's been. Said that he was seeing somebody and, said that it was going to last showing me her photograph."
-Fantasia.
“Hi, Abby. I’m Laila, well duhh. Haha.” She held out her hand and all I could do was stare at it. She was it, the girl that had a hold on Trey’s heart. I mean she was pretty and all, but this girl is his best friend, lover, girlfriend and the “love of his life.” There is no competing with that.
I let my eyes drift off to Trey and he smiled proudly. His eyes filled with joy and his heart, belonged to Laila. I looked back at her as her smile had begun to fade.
“Oh, uhh, well Laila, I’m… Abby?” Since Trey already introduced us, I wasn’t sure why… this… was happening right now. I took her hand and shook it regardless of what my personal feeling was. We shook hands gently, and then she pulled me in for a hug.
I stood stiffly as her arms were clamped around me. She squeezed onto me tightly. I couldn’t help but feel uncomfortable. This isn’t exactly a happy greeting and matter of fact I didn’t want her touching me. Rude of me I know, but the fact is that this girl took what use to be mine, Trey.
Speaking of him, he almost exploded with joy when he saw Laila pull me in for a hug. I’ve never seen him, so completely happy before. Was he even mine to begin with!?! And if this girl is who makes him exceptionally happy, then who am I to disturb.
I laughed falsely, “Oh, wow.” I wrapped my arms around her. I felt as if I was hugging an eager little girl, like Tess. Laila reminded me of an eager little Tess that would jump to hug me.
“It’s so nice to finally meet you!” Her mouthed pressed up against my shoulder, muffling her.
“Awh, my two girls.” cried Trey. He practically ran over to us, engulfing us into a group hug. “Group hug!!” he exclaimed. He wrapped his arms around our necks and brought us closer to him. “I’m so glad you guys like each other.” He cheered.
“Speak for yourself.” I snapped in a thought. “Yay.” I said in an unenthusiastic attitude. He began to jerk our bodies up and down, making us jump with him. Laila began to laugh and Trey snickered. Oh how I wanted to get free from them.
My phone began to vibrate and I sighed in relief. I removed myself, actually more like pried myself, out of the arms of Trey and Laila and back away while checking the I.D. from the incoming caller. I pressed “answer” with a smile.
“Hello?” I questioned.
“Hey baby girl, I’ll be in town later this week, did you want to have dinner?”
I giggled at his question, like a little girl. It made me quite happy to hear his voice.
“I don’t know I’ll have to check my schedule—“
“So 8:30?” He interrupted.
“Yeah, perfect!” I answered. I giggled at the fact he instructed me on meeting him, instead of begging or pleading. I liked a strong guy, who took control, but who knew how to love and be caring.
