Dakota had assumed that Bucky had finally given up on trying to get her to talk to him. She was at home grading papers and she had her mom watching the kids so she could get her work done. She heard a knock on her door and she rolled her eyes when she seen Bucky at her door.
"How did you find me?' she said
"Your teacher file baby doll." he said
She rolled her eyes and let him in. She walked away and sat back down at her bar top and went back to grading her papers.
"Where's the babies?' he said
"At my parents house." she said
He looked at a picture of the 3 of them on her wall and he said " How did that happen? You had a plan baby doll. Kids after college marriage after college. You wanted to coach and teach."
"Bucky you can leave if all you did was come over to ask me about my life choices." she said
"No I want you to talk to me." he said as he took her pen out of her hand.
"Buck please." she said as tears filled her green eyes.
"What happened that day?" he said
"You really want to know the other reason I was hurt and pissed off." she said
"Yes." he said
"Because I love you Bucky! And I was constantly pushed to the side for every other damn girl at that school. It took me a year to sleep with Cameron cause I wanted it with you but you never saw me like that. Our friendship was never going to be like the rest of the group. It hurt to know that you were going to marry Ashlynn. It hurt to know that my plan that I had for myself didn't include you Bucky. So I left to get away from it all cause I couldn't take it anymore I was in love with you Bucky and you tossed me to the side like I didn't even matter they all knew you were going to marry Ashlynn but me I was never told." she said
Bucky swallowed hard and he said "Dakota I .."
"Have to go? Yeah you are good at that. Now if you don't mind I have to finish grading papers so go home to your wife." she said
"Dakota that's not fair.." he said with tears.
"Just go and leave me alone. My fairy tale my love life is gone. I've been hurt to damn much to try again." she said as she opened the door for him.
He left with his head hung low and he got in his truck and started to drive around and he punched his steering wheel as tears continued to fall. He parked in front of the Cooper family lake house. He walked down to the docks and Steve met him there and sat beside him with a case of beer.
"What's up?' Steve said
"I'm an idiot." he said
"What are you talking about?' Steve said
"How could I not see that she loved me and all I did was push and push her away." he said
"Who are we talking about?' Steve said
"Dakota damn it Steve." he said as he wiped tears.
"Buck.. did she say that to you." Steve said
"Yeah.. apparently all her dreams that she had for herself included me and when I decided to leave and be with Ashlynn she just didn't care anymore because I left her." he said
He hugged Bucky and texted the other guys and they joined him with more beer. Dakota told her mom to keep the kids as she down tequila shots after she finished her work. The next morning she got a sub cause she was to hung over. Bucky came down to her room and saw that she had a sub and he went his football office and prayed to God that it wasn't going to be like the last time she broke into tears and her take off again.
That night he drove back to her place and saw her getting all the kids out of her car and he shook his head and went on home.
