Zane POV

After talking with Kawaii~Chan, I had been placed in a better mood. Talking with her just feels nice and relaxing, especially when she acts more real and less fake than she does around other people. This kinda makes me feel special as she doesn't talk with anyone else like she talks with me.

Anyways, I make my way towards class and eventually make it there. As usual, I sit in the very back. Alone. I didn't make the effort to make friends because all the kids here are stupid, I didn't want to associate myself with them as I'd feel like I would lose some brain cells.

Class begins.....

I do my class work alone, projects and even group projects alone, homework alone and everything alone. But I guess I walk into school with someone, so not everything I do is alone.

I make it to all of my classes on time, encountering annoying girls on the way as they think it's my fault that something happened to them.

Girls in my high school are so petty and don't know when to shut up. For instance, Ivy, she keeps pestering me to give her Garroth's number and tells me that it's my fault that she can't get closer to him.

I usually sigh and walk away, but she follows me. Luckily, I'm always saved by the bell because she doesn't realized she's across the school when the 5 minute warning bell rings. She rushes to class, hoping to make it before she was tardy or else she would have lunch detention again.

As the teacher drones on about the lesson that he's repeated over the last month, I start to unconsciously sketch on the side of my notebook.

A girl. Big bright eyes, golden to match her heart. Pink, fluffy hair like cotton candy, to match how sweet she is. Cat ears and tail to resemble, well, a cat, who's independent but loves those who care about it (most of the time). Pink bows to represent innocence and her cute vibe. I go back to the blank ears and fill them in black, with adding more fluff to them, as well as the tail. Giving her black ears, which gives her something other than expectations of people.

The black ears will represent something different than the rest of her features. Calm, secretive, something that reveals a little bit of what's underneath a mask that she wears. A mask with a cute smile painted on.

Thats not really her, is it? Underneath will be her real face. The same golden eyes, but not as vibrant. Not a fake smile, but a real frown. She would have to endure keeping the fake mask on until she can't do it anymore. Until she's tired of it all. Until she finds someone she can show either her real frown or smile to.

"Zane Ro'Meave! Would you like to show your drawing to the class?" The teacher asks me, giving me a nasty look as he looks down upon me. I come back to my senses and look down at what I had drawn.

It's the girl I had thought of. One that I would be happy with. Now that I look at it, it looks a lot like Kawaii~Chan. No, I can't do that. It would only bring her down...

"No sir, I'm fine here. I can listen to your lesson while drawing in my notebook, so it doesn't pose as a problem to me." I respond, trying to get him off my back. He looks taken back for a moment, but a smug look appears on his face.

"Then what is our protagonist's compromise with her enemy that she had fallen in love with?" He asked. Luckily, I had read this before.

"She accepted his feeling and because they were suppose to be enemies, they would have to hide their love. They would fight each other even more to prove that they 'hated' each other. They would take their fight to another place and then spend their time as they pleased." I replied, knowing that I had passed the test.

"Alright, then. I'll let it slide. You can go back to drawing your anime girls." He slyly said, walking back to his podium as a few people looked over and ones closest to me tried getting a peek.

This guy really gets on my nerves.

School had ended and now, I'm just under a tree on the sidelines of the field. There's people playing out in the field, but I could care less. As I'm reading my book, I spot something pink in the corner of my eye. I immediately turn to see if its her.

...but it's sadly not.

Wait, why would I be upset if she's NOT there? I should be glad I have this quiet, alone time. She's always bugging me and always focusing on me in the morning-

"Zane~Senp-KUN!" Kawaii~Chan waves over at me. My eyes widen and I check all over me to see if there's nothing wrong. I put my bookmark in and close my book.

She reaches me and looks at me with her big eyes.

"Hey Zane~Senpai!" She greets me with a smile.

"Ugh, what are we gonna do with that smile? It doesn't suit you at all." I insult her without thinking. I widen my eyes in realization and to my surprise, she wasn't bothered. Her smile faltered and she just stared at me.

"Uh, Zane?" She says, her voice abnormally low.

"Ye-Yeah?" I respond, not knowing what her intentions are.

"That's the first time someone ever said that to me." Her eyes sparkle and it looks as if she's happier than she is when smiling.

"Then that means those people like your smi- Uh!" I got interrupted as she engulfed me in a hug.

"W-what are you doing?!" I raise my voice, surprised by her actions. She giggles with a smile, but it doesn't seem forced.

"See, now? That smile is prettier than the one you had earlier." I told her, allowing her to touch me only once.

"Well, what makes Zane smile?" She asks, suddenly curious about me.

"..I don't know, I guess." I reply, disappointed at my answer and finally realizing that.

"Then, I'll find out what makes you happy, got it?" Kawaii~Chan seems really excited and hyped to find out what it is. I look at her with dead eyes, doubting her ability.

"Well, you can try but I don't think it's gonna work." I say, but her eyes get bigger with her mouth in a pout.

"I'm gonna find it, I promise!" She clenches her fist in front of me, seemingly determined.

"Alright, you can try." I encourage her and she jumps up and cheers.

"Kawaii~Chan! I see you over the- WOWIE YOU'RE CHATTING WITH A BOY!" I hear a high voice scream. Everyone on the field, curious, turns to look at the direction she had screamed at.

"Shoot, Aphmau!" Kawaii~Chan panicked and looked at me with worried eyes.

"Don't worry, you go to her and I'll hide in the meantime." I let her know, but her face looks even more worried.

"But I want to hang out with you longer.." she responds, but nods when I look her dead in the eye.

I can't hang out with her, it would only bring her down.

She runs over to Aphmau, the same smile she had on before. The smile that belonged to someone else, not her.
