Layla's POV ~

"Meow. Meow. Meow." Something mewled in my ear.

"What the fuck?" I asked, jumping as I saw a plump orange cat sitting on my chest.

I sat back with wide eyes as this adorable animal continued to meow and paw at me, clearly vying for my attention. It was very clear to me that this was a domestic cat as it knew how to get me to pet it, and it was showing no fear as it sat on my chest. The blue thin collar caught my attention, and I learned the name of the cat, but nothing more than that.

"Hermy, how did you get into my house?" I whispered, petting him behind his ears.

As expected, he didn't respond and continued to purr as I pet him.

A few more minutes passed as I finally gathered myself together, and when I threw my blanket off of me, the events of last night hit me hard. I had gotten so shit faced, took a shower, and when stepping out of it I had tripped and fallen into my full length mirror, cutting my arms up on the glass.

That wasn't exactly my most stellar moment here on earth.

"Do you cats sense how fucked up this world has become?" I whispered to him, getting ready to get up from my bed and go make coffee.

"Meow." Hermy purred.

"Yeah, yeah, meow, meow." I yawned.

He was a lucky son of a bitch.

Mystery POV ~

I kicked open her door and she screamed at the top of her lungs. I couldn't let that shake me, we had to go and now. There was no room to fuck around.

"Shut up!" I growled, jumping onto the bed as I needed to make this quick.

"No! Get off!" She screeched underneath me.

Reaching for the pillow that was next to her, I quickly brought it over her mouth and pressed down as hard as I could. My hope was that this would end soon.

I could hear her muffled cries and shouts underneath the pillow, and I was beyond amazed that I was able to overpower her. She definitely was putting up a very good fight.

"Please just pass out," I whispered.

Another couple of minutes passed, and I breathed a sigh of relief once I felt her fighting slow down and she was clearly getting weaker.

Her body finally relaxed and her body sunk back into the bed. I took the pillow off of her face, threw her up into my arms and ran her out the front door to my car as fast as possible.

Running back in, I grabbed Hermy, congratulated him on distracting her and then put him in the car as well.

I started up my car, leaving her front door wide open and I took down the street like a bat out of hell. We had no time to waste. Racing down the streets I refused to go any slower than 40 MPH, and I made sure to take as many back roads as I could as I had hoped that would make this whole thing easier.

We finally were approaching the block that the flower shop she worked in was on, and while I slowed down a tiny bit to see if I could see Zak in the shop a black car came flying at us and I didn't even have time to brace myself before the car collided with us.

"Oh fuck." I groaned, my vision becoming blurry as the impact was severe.

Looking in the back seat I saw that Layla was still passed out, which I guess right now was a good thing.

My fuzzy vision was able to see a jet black mass step out of the other car.

It slowly approached my car, and once it got closer my heart sunk to the floor.

A pair of shockingly blue eyes peeked into my car through the passenger window, and I instantly recognized them.

Sighing, I leaned my head back against my headrest and punched my steering wheel as hard as I could.

"Sorry, kid." I whispered, looking back at the unconscious Layla.

Another even more recognizable set of eyes peered in through my window, and my heart sunk even further when I saw them.

We were so fucked.

Author's Note  ~

My apologies that this chapter is so frickin' short. I was struggling with the plot a bit, and figured in order to move this story along to anywhere good I needed a shorter transition chapter to get there. Despite its short nature, I hope you still enjoy!
