Balthazar's POV

After one frustratingly fruitless conversation with my so-called grandfather, I realized that I was in no shape for helping my friends at the NYPD. So I went home.

I took off my jacket and hooked it on the door hanger. Everything was going surprisingly smooth until Aunt Azarel paid unwelcoming visit.

"Hello, Aunt Azarel." I said while trying to contain the thick anger within.

"Balthazar, I know that you're angry..." before she could finished I stopped her.

"Oh, no, not at you. At the wholesome, supreme dick you call your father."

"Don't talk of him like that!" She said in high authority.

"Then, how should I speak of him? Talk me! He's talking to me at all. And he simply doesn't care about his so-called beautiful and forgiveness-worthy Earth. Everyone is going to die if He doesn't do something!"

"I know." She asked politely.

"Oh, do you? Because this "my destiny" thing, it's killing me! You are all killing me! I didn't ask for this!"  I said angrily and bluntly.

"I know!" She said angrily, adding, "You think that I chose this for you? It was a debate, Balthazar. A debate that was completely one-sided. And believe me, I didn't want to accept this duty. Because you accept it, I will never see you again." She cried softly. Tears ran out of her blue-sky eyes.

"I am so sorry. I had no idea that you were hurting over this." I politely said.

"You never asked."

"Well, I know now," I said, looking at the clock.

"Listen, I know we don't sleep really, but, I have to...." before I ended my statement, she already teleported out of the room.

"To figure out our next move," I whispered calmly.

[The next day]

Sasha's POV

I was researching on all the possible evidence to see if the guy is really innocent. But, all of it pointed towards him, still.

I sighed, "Come on!"

"That's not a good look." Ashton joked.

"Let me guess, all evidence still points him."

"Yeah. I tried every angle I can think of and none of them stick unsurprisingly." I said bluntly.

"That sucks," Ashton said.

"It's frustrating." I corrected him bluntly. "Do you have any thing on your end?"

"Nope, nothing. Halle did a background check on every thing prior to our victim's death, and, you know the rest."

"Yeah."

"But, that's not the only thing bothering you, isn't it?"

"It's Balthazar."

"Damn, I hate it when I'm right," I stared at him, with a serious look. "But, hey, I'm your friend. So tell me."

"Everything about him seems to stick: him being a hybrid, his birth and his supernatural faults, even his powers. So if angels, demons, and I can't believe I'm saying this, hybrids exist, then the serious possibility about us being reincarnated siblings..."

"Doesn't seem to be far-fetched."

"Yeah. I know it sounds crazy."

"It's not, because I believe him also."

"You... you do?"

"I know that there was something profound between us, the first time we met, and the sweet moments we spent together as friends. Deep inside of me, I knew that we were something, I just denied it because it sounded crazy. But, when Balthazar came here, he made the craziness somehow believable." Ashton explained.

"Yeah," I said.

"And this is curse lifted, I am really going to regret kissing you on prom night."

"Ew! Ew, no need to rub it in. I don't want a vivid imagery." I said in great disdain.

"Right,"

"Let's just get back to work."

[In Balthazar's Apartment]

Balthazar's POV

I was trying to find a solution that may put a stop to Lucifer's rising, but, efforts were severely useless.

"There's got to be a way. Come on!"

As I said that, Aunt Azarel appeared.

"Good Morning," she said kindly.

"Bad morning," I retorted.

"Yeah, I'm aware of your continuous search, that is why I'm here to help you."

"You want to help me?"

"Yes, I mean I helped you before, right? And, well, I want you to be safe."

"No offense, Aunt. But, nothing we do is safe." I add, "And I get that you want to help me, but, you have your job to do and I have mine. I don't think I need you right now. I'm sorry."

She didn't respond, and I was about the explain to her why. But she disappeared out of rejection.

I reminisced about the video with Dante's twin brother, and it hit me again.

"I need to tell them."

[5 minutes later]

Sasha's POV

"We need to keep looking."

"The snake of corruption," Balthazar said out of nowhere.

"Snake of what?" I said.

"Snake of Corruption, it's a mark on the person's arm in the video, it's a demon who has taken the face of someone without possessing a body,"

"And couldn't we see the "snake of corruption"?" Ashton asked amusingly.

"Because since you haven't unlocked your powers, your eyes cannot perceive things that are completely adaptable. So only I find a way to break this hold, you will be pretty much mortal to everything."

"So, you've seen this "snake of corruption" before?" Ashton asked.

"And it is not something to be mess with." Balthazar responded.
"Why didn't you tell us?"

"Because!" He slammed his palm on the table that pretty much quiet the room.
"Because I lost you guys once and now that I have you two again, I don't wanna lose you."

"Listen, Balthazar, this is what we do, and we've been doing this for years. We've survived in harsh conditions, and we thought we were going to die, but we didn't. We pushed every obstacle back to its place, we've achieved every goal before you came and it is changing. But you know what, we are still quitting because that's not who we are. And even though we don't see eye to eye, even when I don't see eye to eye with you, I'm going to put that aside and deal with the problem that we do. We're detectives and when we arrive at a case.."

"We end it." I said to Balthazar.

"So we could do this either with you or without you, but it'd be better if it's the latter." Ashton joked. I elbowed him.

"I'll help you," Balthazar declared. "After all, it's my case too."
