After brushing my teeth in a black tank and grey paid baggy pants, I went left, down the warm toned hallway with wooden floors and into the very end to reach my bedroom. Our house was small, but it wasn't that big either. It was just a quaint, cozy, old home that fit a family of four - My mum, dad, my little sister and me - perfectly. Only closing the door and barely even turning, I heard a knock on my door. Mum and dad should be downstair already. I curiously opened the door to see a little girl all wrapped in her blankets.
"Kai! Kai!" she jumped up and down, and hugged me. But she was still so small that her head only reached my torso. I laughed.
"What did you eat? A pound of sugar?" Her features twisted into a frown. She looked up at me.
"Why would I?"
"Well then did you eat a lot of sugar?"
"Why would I do that?"
"Remember that time when--"
"Hey I haven't done that in ages!"
She paused and looked down.
"Mummy and daddy forgot to tuck me in tonight. Can you tuck me in Kai?"
So close, yet so far, bed. I have brotherly duties to attend to.
"Sure, why not?" I smiled.
I held her hand and walked with her to her room not that far away from mine. Once we went insode, she ran into her bedroom and snuggled in her blankets.
"Can you tell me a story Kai?" She asked, her green eyes gleaming bright at my blue green irises.
"Sorry Taylor, I'm a little tired. We should both get some sleep." I said to her.
"Oh, that's okay," I could see a little frown under her smile, and I immediately felt guilty. "I think everyone's tired today."
Mum is a part time nurse and is a manager in some small businesses and dad is an architecht. It's a shame that they're are always busy on weekdays with their shifts at work. They're always so tired so mostly on weekdays I take care of her if my aunt is busy.
"Why don't I tuck you in tomorrow as well then?"
"Yay! Did you know you're my favourite person in the world!"
"Yeah, I do. Now Sweet dreams." I said, chuckling at that little compliment. pulling some stray strands away from her face I kissed her forehead goodnight.
"Goodnight! Wait."
"What is it?"
"You only save your goodnight kisses for me right? Well, you have to, because you don't have a girlfriend don't you. And I'm not going to let my big brother kiss a random stranger because that's bad. And that's really gross and you're too kind and nice to be mean to other girls and play with them like some some of my other friends' big brother's do at school. You're not like that right?"
"Of course I will, because you're my only little sister."
"Well, maybe except for Avery." she added, a little quieter, and giggled.
"Huh?"
"Nothing", she said a little longer than she should have. "Okay you can go away and sleep now".
"Alright then." I turned to her bedside table and closed the white flower lampshade.
"Don't turn off the lights!" She cried out to me.
"Oh sorry, I forgot that you were only seven." I said and headed out the door.
"Hey! I'm not that young anymore!" She said before I closed the door.
