“Thank you.”
I took it and ran as fast as I could; although I was probably begging my body to faint because of how I tired I was, but somehow, I managed to get to the bench where she sat without passing out. I guess that’s a good sign?
“Here!” I said breathlessly.
The ice cream was slightly melted, slightly spilling and drooling like a little waterfall on one side so I swiped it away and gave it to her. I hope she didn’t mind. While I was catching my breath, I poured water on her knee and stopping it from puking yucky red blood even more and then put a bandaid and then I practically fell on top of the bench.
“Hey are you alright? You didn’t have to do that for me.”
She was right. But something drew me to her. I wanted to do it for her, and who wouldn’t want to do it for a marshmallow smelling girl anyway? Her eyes were beginning to clear up though because they looked even more sparkly than before, it looked like she was back to normal again.
“It’s… okay.”
“But it isn’t. You’re panting and you look like you’re half dead, and I bet that this ice cream was supposed to be yours.”
She was right. I’m not very good and not looking tired after wanting to pass out. Or lying.
“Then you can make it right by telling me your name. Please?” She chuckled
“Okay, well my name is Avery. Plain Avery Jane. I don’t look very good right now though.”
I felt so guilty for making her look ugly.
“I’m sorry for making your dress look ugly.”
“I said don’t worry about it. You look like you’re dead because you wanted me to be happy.”
“I’m serious! You’re so pretty and I hurt you and made you look so ugly when you’re supposed to be really pretty—“
Wait… what did I just say?! Wait no woops! Now’s she’s gonna think that I’m weird. I’m so embarrassing!
“--wait no, what I meant was that… uh…”
I started to feel hot again, what should I do?! If there were to be a perfect time to faint, now would be! Why am I so weird? I shouldn’t have said that. Would she be weirded out if I fainted right now?
“You… you think I’m pretty?” she said stuttering a little, her cheeks went a little redder than usual; a way that my face could never look.
Is that a good thing? Hm, is this a good stutter or not? I think I’m weirding her out Yep I’ve gotta faint. But is it a good thing? I decided to make the bravest and most reckless answer I’ve ever given in my life.
“Ye… yes”
Please, please, please don’t let her slap me in the face! This is it. She’s going to slap me and I’m finally going to faint and move away where she’ll never see me again until we’re married and awkwardly stare at each other because our faces are familiar…
“Yeah, sorry won’t have to do.” She said, interrupting my thoughts.
“Yeah! Wait, what?!”
“What’s you’re name?”
“Oh! I forgot sorry, it’s Kai Ayden.”
“Well Kai, at the cost of pushing me to the ground, you are now forever locked in my debt, which you will repay with your life. You now have to buy me an ice cream for the rest of your life!” Her smile changed.
Although it was sweet, it became cheekier. I think that’s good, right? I seriously did not know what to think of that.
“Well, uh, uh, I guess so… I don’t even know where you live – not that I want to know where you live but how would this even work?”
Argh! Why is she so HARD to talk to?! Is this what it feels like, in stories where they said the butterflies? It’s not true! Butterflies don’t feel good at all.
I was feeling so embarrassed and my faced turned into a pink marshmallow. I guess she could see how I felt, because she started laughing at me for the first time. Her cheeks slightly redder, her eyes even more sparkly. If it were, she would be a fairy.
“Every Friday okay? At two in the afternoon!”
“But the ice cream parade is only once in a year.” She shrugged and smiled. It didn’t help a lot.
“Pinky swear? You’ll always be here to give me ice cream every Friday?”
“Of course – I mean okay then! But what about winter? Won’t you get sick? Isn’t that bad?” She laughed again, I’m starting to think she laughs a while lot more too.
“Hehe, you’re funny. I shall name you, my precious ice cream boy! Winters can be hot cocoas. Oh, and you’re not allowed to buy any ice cream for any other girl okay! Ooh, and I’ll get to see you more!”
“Pinky swear” I smiled, and of course, she laughed back.
And that’s when I met her. The little girl with the most cheerful soul I’ve seen in my whole life. The cheerful girl that changed my life in one day. It’s not the most perfect way to find someone you love by knocking onto the ground, but it was perfect for me... I’ve been buying her ice cream ever since.
