Christmas was one of the best times of the year for Kokichi. No matter what happened during the rest of the year, no matter how much hardship or bad things that happened, Christmas was always the best time of year because he knew he could count on his friends and family to make the holidays special.

This year was even more special, though. This year, he had Kaito and his grandparents, as well as DICE all crowded into their small home together. Kaito had driven to his grandparents house to bring them over for two weeks during the holidays, while DICE was coming over every day or so to hang out and make family meals for everyone. It made Kokichi's heart feel so light and warm whenever he'd see his family try to help Kaito's grandparents around, watching as they bonded just as well as he expected.

Sitting under the kotatsu in their rather cramped living room, Kokichi was working on a milk puzzle with Kaito and Lily, one of the younger DICE members while munching on freshly made cookies that Kaito's grandmother had made. Kaito's grandparents sat on the couch, cuddled under the new electric blanket that they'd been gifted early and watching two other DICE members play on the Gamecube. Everything was calm, the sound of Christmas music and cooking coming from the kitchen as two other DICE members cooked the dinner they'd all be sharing that evening.

Kokichi sighed, putting down his half eaten cookie and sliding halfway under the warm table, pouting in agitation. He'd been having occasional bouts of heartburn, ruining his appetite for the delicious food that Granny and his friends had been making. He hated the feeling, turning to hug onto his boyfriends middle and complain quietly.

"Bluh..." He mumbled, pressing his face into the soft fabric of Kaito's shirt, "Heartburn."

"Again? You really need to get that checked out, Kichi." A hand reached down, patting the smaller boys head distractedly, too focused on the puzzle in front of him.

"Its jus' heartburn. I haven't been eating anything different, and Grannys cookies haven't ever done that..."

"Could just be acid reflux," Kokichi was still not getting the full attention he wanted, crawling into Kaito's lap and making him almost drop his cup of hot cider, "Guh! Kokichi, c'mon."

"You aren't giving me attention! I'm sick, you should be worried about me." Kokichi puffed his cheeks out, leaning his head on Kaito's chest. With a sigh, Kaito wrapped his arms around the smaller boy and put his head on top of his.

"I just said you should go to the doctors. If you don't wanna go, you can't just rely on me to figure out whats wrong, y'know." Kokichi nuzzled his face into the scruff of Kaito's neck, taking a deep breath in of his shampoo.

"Why not? You're smart, can't you just take care of me?" The smile on his face told Kaito that he was just playing around with him. Kaito was proud of how honest Kokichi was being with his emotions, after being so closed off even until recently.

"Well, I can take care of you, I just can't figure out whats wrong. You could have acid reflux, or a minor food allergy, or..." Kaito thought for a minute, rubbing Kokichis side absentmindedly, running through possibilities of what could be causing the problem.

"... Hm." He paused, holding the milk puzzle piece in his hand still before putting it down. He could only think of a few things, mostly what he'd been taught in first aid, and he couldn't be sure but...

"Hmm? What's up, Momo-chan?" Kokichi poked his loves cheek, trying to draw him out of his thoughts.

"Oh uh. Nothing. I'll tell ya later." Kaito knew how Kokichi was a private person, not wanting his business out there- if what he thought was correct, he wasn't about to say it in front of everyone else and risk upsetting his boyfriend. Kokichi got the hint, nodding and staying quiet, preferring to just cuddle back into the pets.
