Chapter 6: Not So Silent Prayers

Hannah’s POV

Thora and I slept together in my room that night. We let the Fryes use her room since it was filled with a queen sized bed and a bunk bed. Her room was very big. I liked the new people. They were Christian-folk. After dinner, I gave one of my Rubik’s cubes and got him to show me how to do it. It was a bit tedious and confusing, but he was patient with me and I with him. You see, I’ve got slight autism, so stuff like this does tend to be a bit more difficult at first. He was a good teacher though. I got three sides completed.

I closed my eyes. As I lay in bed next to Thora, I would pray silently tonight. Dear God, I pray that I can sleep peacefully tonight. My future is in your hands, Lord. Guide me with peace and wisdom tonight. I thank you for letting him be patient with me. Amen.

Isaac’s POV

Jordan took the bottom bunk and Bethany, Cierra, and I took the bed, since nobody’s legs were strong enough to climb the bunk by ourselves. I laid on the edge closest to the bunk bed. Bethany was in the middle and Cierra was on the other edge. Jordan seemed too tired to pick on me. Together, lying in bed, we prayed together. Jordan seemed to have fallen asleep already, for I could not hear him.

Cierra began, “Dear God, thank you for keeping up safe today. We pray for blessings on this family that has taken us into their care. I pray they are patient with our craziness and that only good shall come for all of us. May it be uphill from here on.”

I continued it. “Bless Thora for finding us In the first place. She has showed me how clever even a blind man can be,” and to know if she is the right one for me. Guide my heart God. Show whether this could be real or just my own puppy love. Please God, I really want a chance at this.

Bethany went on, “may our mom and dad be safe and not be too worried. Lord, please heal Jordan, our derpy big brother who was hurt a lot in the crash. May he sleep without trouble tonight. In Jesus’ name we pray – “

Jordan must have been only partially asleep. He yelled out, “AMEN!” as loud as his tired, cracked voice could yell. It echoed. We were silent then reluctantly laughed.

I turned over and clicked off the lamp by our bed.

“Night, Isaac,” Bethany whispered.

Oh my, now it begins.

I whispered back in a playful sing-song voice, “Night, Bethany.”

All three of us in the bed spoke in unison, “Night, Jordan!”

Jordan called back, “G’night kiddos...”

“Goodnight, Papa.”

Everything grew quiet. I think we were all asleep at last. That is, until Jordan spoke again.

“STARDUST SPRINKLESHINE!”

They heard us. The whole house erupted with laughter. I laughed to myself, “This is gonna be great!”
