"Promise me, Janessa, that one day when we're older, we'll be together again. Because..I-I..I love you." He takes my hand and stares deeply in my eyes waiting for my response. I'm taken aback by his choice of words but I can't help but admit that I too love him. I know we're both only ten and as cliche as it sounds, I think he may be the one for me. If only I wasn't moving..

"Okay, I promise." I force a smile on my face so the tears won't spill. Who knows when we'll see each other again? It's only a matter of time before we forget about each other. Ugh, the thought sickens me.

He pulls me into a bear hug squeezing the life out of me.

"Jay! It's time to go hurry before we miss our flight hun!" Mom calls from the porch of our house. Her brown ringlets in a high pony tail falling just above her shoulders.

He releases me, tears flooding his cheeks, and forces a smile. It's so hard to see my best friend like this. Just before I was about to walk away, because I don't want him to see me break down into tears, he takes something out of his shorts pocket and carefully holds it in his hand.

"I want you to have this." He says and shows me the necklace. It's chain is silver with a green, blue, and pink mermaid dangling from it. It's beyond beautiful and thoughtful of him to remember how much I adore mermaids. I gasp and go on my tip toes to hug him again.

Once we release, I pull my hair up and he secures the necklace around my neck.

"I love you, Drew."

"I love you too, Jay."

7 YEARS LATER

His soft fingers stroke my cheek as those beautiful blue eyes bore into mine. They glisten in the faint moonlight. I can feel my palms start to sweat and I'm afraid he could hear my heart beating out of my chest. His lips part just a little probably contemplating whether he wants to do this or not.

Then, as if coming to an agreement with himself, his hands grasp my waist and pulls me even closer to him. His gaze still fixated on mine. He leans in until our foreheads are touching. Butterflies flood my stomach giving me a tingly feeling inside. My breath hitches in my throat and I can't find the air to breathe. Then his lips brush up against mine, teasing me. I smirk to myself as I close my eyes and wrap my arms around his neck.

And then...

I wake up.

The crazy part is when I open my eyes, I'm not in my comfortable queen size bed. Shit, I'm not even in the house! I take a look around and find that I'm across the street from my home, kissing a light post! How the hell did I get here?!

I pull away from this unwanted physical contact and wipe my lips with the tank top I have on. I wonder who the boy in my dream was because woah mama, he was smokin'! Oh my lord, I hope no one saw me, this random brunette who just moved in the neighborhood wearing a tank top and shorts making out with a light post in the middle of the night. I'd be utterly humiliated.

But luck is just not on my side tonight.

"I am so going to post this!" I bolt around almost instantly to find my brother, Jordan, with his phone pointing at me as he laughs like a hyena. His black hair is sticking up making him look like he just got out of bed, which he probably did.

"Jordan!" I stomp over to him whilst running into someone's mailbox on the way. And the taunting continues..

"Oh, Janessa it's our first night here and you've already found your mate eh?" I scowl at him while clutching my knee. Stupid mailbox.
