I watched as the islands of Hawaii pass right below me. I couldn't help but let the tears fall.
When is the next time I will be able to see my best friends again? Will I ever see them again? What if the friends I make in California aren't as amazing as my friends back in Hawaii?
Dad said we have to move back in seven years, right before we graduate from high school, because he wants us to go to college here, where our family and friends are.
But still. Seven years?! That's too long.
"Baby, are you alright?" Mom asked. I pulled away from my thoughts and quickly wiped the tears from my eyes.
"Ye- yeah I'm fine." I studdered. She didn't look convinced and hugged me into her chest, deciding it was better not to say anything.
After a few moments, she let me go and I looked out the small airplane window. We were pretty much above Cloud 9 right now. The blanket of clouds below us, made me feel weak and fragile. I knew on the other side of the blanket of clouds was my home state, becoming smaller and smaller as we ascended.
"Where did you get that necklace?" Mom questioned, her eyebrows furrowed. I looked down at it. The green, blue, and pink colored mermaid dangling from the silver chain, rested on my chest. A grin found its way onto my face.
"It's from Drew."
Her eyebrows shot up and smiled. "Seems like he still has the hots for you, huh?"
I blushed. "I guess you could say that."

"I don't know, exactly, what we are. From what everyone's been saying about her, I don't know if I was just in the moment or if I actually do like her," Jordan explained.
"I understand. I don't know if she's who she says she is or what everyone else says she is."
"What do you mean?"
"I mean, some people act a certain way because they have stuff going on their life and some just act a certain a way because that's just how they are. But I don't know, her brother seemed a little weird, but she seemed calm when i talked to her at the mall." Jordan and I were talking about Brie. He was sitting on my couch as I laid on my bed, staring at the ceiling. Naomi left a while ago to help her parents take care of her foster siblings.
"I guess, you're right." Jordan sighed.
I hesitated, "Ca- can I ask you something?"
"Sure."
I sat up. "Do you think it's weird that I-"
I was cut off by Mariah and Dad barging into my room.
"Hey kids!" Dad greeted and plopped down on my chair at my computer desk.
"Uhm, hi." Jordan and I said at the same time and awkwardly glanced at each other.
Mariah sat on the couch. "So, Lainey will be here by tomorrow evening so make sure you, Jordan, take you, Jay, to the airport to pick her up and take her back here." Dad pointed to each of us with his eyebrows pointed skywards.
"Lainey's coming?"
"Yes, Jordan, and she'll be either staying in the guest bedroom or Janessa's. Jordan, please don't make the same mistake you made last time." Dad pleaded and Mariah scoffed.
Jordan rolled his eyes. "I told you, I didn't mean to break her nose!"
"Then why did you?" Mariah questioned and I was trying to hold in my laugh, remembering what had went down that night.
