Chapter Two: On The Prowl
RepostedI practically marathon run into the school building with a cup of coffee in my hand. It's sloshing around and probably spilling everywhere, but I don't have any intention to slow down. I'm running late, but at least I'm here. I surprisingly haven't bumped into anyone or spilled all the brown liquid on the floor or god forbid on someone. Imagine my horror if burned someone? Along with burning them, staining their clothes if it happened to be white? News here travels so fast. That's what happens when you live in a small town where everyone practically even know your puppies names, we don't have a dog. But I'm sure if we did, a lot of everyone would know about it. I've known eighty-eight percent of these people I go to school with since kindergarten, the rest were met here or elementary school. I'm more of a cat girl though myself even though I don't own one either, I just know that I prefer cats. I get enough crap from the Black-Haired-Witch I don't need more. She makes up stuff and tells people and some people believe her which is completely dumb and stupid, like the things she says about me is ridiculous and impossible.
Please, thank you but no thank you. That would be totally humiliating. No detention I hope for being late. I hurry to my locker and start quickly entering my combination. Rebekah is nowhere in sight, so I assume she is already in class. Lucky her. No risk of tardiness.
If it wasn't for Reece hogging the bathroom and using shower for ages like some teenage diva with stupid long hair like Rapunzel, I think I would be here on time. Stupid, stupid boy. I swear he deliberately does these kind of things because he knows it ticks me off and I mean what ten year old boy uses the bathroom for over half an hour? He finds pleasure in my annoyance.
Behind me, I hear the most annoying sound in the universe. Brittany's nasally voice. God! If there were awards for that kinda thing...
"Ooh, New York, huh? That is so hot," she flirts.
I don't even have to turn around. I already know she is moving in on the new guy. Poor guy. In this situation, she's the shark, and he's the goldfish. He doesn't stand a chance."Uh, yeah. It's cool, I guess," a deep, city accent nonchalantly responds.
"I see you've got some big strong muscles there. Are you gonna try out for the football team?" Brittany's horrible screeching voice inquires. "Not to brag or anything, but I happen to be the head cheerleader here at Ashden. We need some more tough guys like yourself on the team."
She was bound to make her move at some point since he got here a couple weeks ago. I don't know why she's only now approached him. It's not like her to take long to get what she wants. I knew the moment in the hallway two weeks ago she wanted him, I saw how she claimed him with just her eyes. When Brittany wants something, she gets it with a snap of her fingers, and a swoosh of her black, shiny hair or even just a plain Daddy's Little Girl flutter of her eyelashes.
"Actually, I'm already on the team," he corrects her with an awkward laugh, "and I'm also going to be late for class. If you'll excuse me."
I glance over my shoulder just in time to see the dark haired new guy step around her, he has that same maroon backpack hanging from his shoulder. It's hard to contain my laughter when I see the typical cry-baby expression on Brittany's face. It's that same look she always gets when something doesn't go her way.
She notices me and folds her arms over her chest, "what are you looking at?"
"Not really sure," I shrug, "but whatever it is, it kind of resembles rejection." I slam my locker and go to class. I know I've made Brittany mad, and for that, I feel triumphant. Today is going to be a great day.
