Chapter Seven:
I don't say much to my mother as she drives me to school. I have nothing to say to her. I'm not angry with her. She just knows how I feel about Brittany. She knows how wrongly Brittany has treated me in the past, but even she believes the fly over her own daughter.
I climb out of her car and wordlessly slam the door shut. I walk to the front of the school building as she pulls away. I want to go inside and punch Brittany in the face, but I know I can't. That will only make her lies seem like truths.
I calmly walk inside the double doors and head straight for my locker. I don't see Rebekah yet, so I wait for her. All of a sudden, I feel a sharp pain in my shoulder as Brittany passes by and purposely slams her shoulder against mine. I wince, biting my tongue as hard as I possibly can without biting it off.
"Watch where you're going," she scoffs at me and walks away with two other blonde minions.
"You good?" Rebekah appears next to me.
I face my best friend furiously. "No. I have a plan."
Another school day drags on, and when the final bell rings, I head to the football field. From the school front, I can see the boys in their practice jerseys. Austin is stretching his arms. And, of course, the cheerleaders are in their tight spandex shorts and tank tops. I grimace at the sight of Brittany rushing around the field shouting at the other girls about what they're doing wrong.
I march out on the field, making a beeline toward Austin. He doesn't notice me, not at first anyway.
"Austin!" I call out, grabbing his attention.
He sees me and smiles a toothy grin, "Hey, Roxanne, what's up?"
"Can you come here for a second?" I ask, glancing around. His coach wasn't there yet, He had at least a minute to spare.
He jogs over to me. I side eye the cheerleaders, and realize Bitchany has completely stopped dancing and is staring at us. Austin reaches me, and stares down at me while chewing his bottom lip nervously.
"I just wanted to come see you," I scan him over. His biceps are more obvious than usual, "before practice."
"Oh, yeah?" he squints at me, "why's that?"
I lick my lips. It's time.
"Honestly," I take a step closer to him until we are standing chest-to-chest, "because I wanted to do this."
I lift myself on my tiptoes to reach him, in a quick motion and place my hands on each side of his soft cheeks. Before he can even react, my lips are on his. I felt something unexpected... A spark. Behind him, I hear all his football pals freaking out.
"YEAAAAH." one guy shouts. I recognize his voice from the restaurant.
I pull away from him breathlessly and he smiles down at me again, "woah."
I glance over my shoulder at the Black-Haired-Witch, and if looks could kill, I would be six feet in the ground. I see the football coach marching onto the field and tell Austin, "I'll see you later. How about tonight?"
"Great," he agrees, and I rush away before I get him in trouble. "I'll text you after practice."
As I jog to the front of the school, I can't help but giggle at the thought of Brittany's pain.
