Empty streets. A few cars passed up and down by closed establishments.
The distance between Tsuki's house and Elena's wasn't big. As fast as she was driving she didn't have much time to think. By the time she realised where she was her foot was already touching the pavement and the bike parked in front of a small iron door.
She looked up.
The same window. Nothing changed. Like time haven't passed and it was only the morning after that night. And again, another shining morning.
A breath of wind made the curtains on the window flutter softly. She was up. Did she leave already? What time is it? The phone stayed home somewhere forgotten and Tsuki didn't had the time to put on watch.. well because she didn't own one. She was counted on pure luck. Seeing those curtains slowly settle down made her heart jump with anticipation. Was she home?
She got off the bike and put the keys in her back pocket. Standing now on the sidewalk in front of her door, Tsuki faced the buzzer.
'Here we go...'
Nothing.
Tsuki didn't move an inch. She looked at the window again waiting for Elena to magically appear and ask her to come in. Her brain couldn't formulate half a sentence, not that she knew what to say though. The reason she came to Elena's house was unclear and all she felt was an annoying feeling of restlessness everytime the image of Elena's empty seat came to her mind.
'Idiot!' Tsuki thought to herself and looked down to the closed door.
She was so absorbed by her thoughts and the loud beats of her heart, not knowing what to do or how to make her body move to press that button to finally end the agony. Waiting there was easier than not seeing Elena and, therefore, having her heart broken but at the same time, ringing that bell and having Elena answer was even worse. How would she apologize to her? There was no excuse for what she did.
'She's not home.'
Tsuki concluded, giving up her pointless await for psychic Elena to come down. She didn't feel like driving. She needed to move. No matter in what direction as long it took her far away from that door.
As she stepped out the sidewalk to cross the street. Her mind was too agitated with thought from the night they met and the following meeting they had. Everything happened so fast. Elena happened too fast.
She needed some distraction to let that disappointment go. Looking down at the black pavement she observed multiples shiny spots mixed with the dark ground. Focusing on the contrast between the shiny spots and all the black around made her think of a starry night. How long has it been since she saw a clear night sky?
Immerse in her thoughts to avoid acknowledging she was a coward, Tsuki didn't hear a truck coming down the street.
Strangely the shiny white spots on the ground brought back the memories of her night with Elena. She missed that. She missed Elena's touch on her hair. The weight of her body over hers. Her soft full lips. But she didn't deserve them. She wasn't good enough and she took another step towards the middle of the street.
The driver started buzzing longingly but didnt slow down.
Distant, Tsuki heard the buzz and looked up on it's direction only to have her sight invaded by the massive truck crossing right in front of her.
Startled by the loud noise and the gigantic vehicle passing only a few inches away from her, as an instant reflex, she backed up quickly losing balance along with all the air in her lungs as she hit her back heavily against pavement.
