Catching Up With Derek

Derek wanted to drive, so I let him. It's not like I knew any coffee shops around here.

You might be wondering how Derek and I know each other. It started when I twelve. I came up on land for the first time since Lily died, and met his sister Laura Hale. It didn't take long for us to figure out what each of us was. It also didn't take long for me to meet her pack. They all instantly loved me, and I loved them. Besides Laura, I was closest with Derek. While Laura was out with her other friends, I would play with Derek. I would always force him to play 'the Little Mermaid' with me. Derek was always the prince, while I was Ariel. The age difference didn't matter to us. We were like siblings. None of them cared about what I was, and I learned not all werewolves were bad. By the time I had to leave them, it was like I was apart of their pack. I occasionally visited whenever I could. But it wasn't often. I hadn't seen them in about four years.

Derek pulled into a parking lot, and got out. I followed him as he walked inside a tiny looking building.

"This is Starbucks. You came here a few times when you first came to us." Derek said.

"Yeah, I remember," I said, smiling at the memory.

We walked inside, and got two coffees. Then we found two empty seats, and since it was still extremely early in the morning, it wasn't that hard.

"You first!" Derek and I said at the same time. We both burst out laughing.

"I'll go." I told him. "About a week ago, Atlantis was attacked by that aunt I told you and Laura about."

Derek nodded. "Seraphina, right?"

"Right. Anyway, James and I managed to escape as her army invaded the palace, but Mom... Mom wasn't as lucky as us. And when I was fourteen, Dad died from some mysterious illness." I said, as my eyes teared up.

"Oh, I'm sorry for your loss," He said.

"Don't say that. It's not your fault they died, Derek." I told him.

Derek sighed, "I know but still. Where are you staying anyway?"

"We are living at this house that's designed specifically for mermaids. It even has a Moon Pool!"

"And a Moon Pool is..."

"It's like a pool for mermaids, and connects to water outside, such as lakes or even the ocean."

"That's cool." Derek said.

"Yeah, it is." I smiled. "But what's been going on with you?"

"Well, after Laura was killed a kid named Scott was bitten, and turned into a werewolf."

"Scott McCall?"

"Yeah, how did you know?"

"We met at school, along with his other friends. He's a True Alpha, right?"

"Yeah. So basically, after that we've had multiple supernatural problems. Somebody even got possessed." He told me.

"Who got possessed, and by what?"

"Stiles Stilinski. He was possessed by the Nogitsune."

My eyes widened. I'd heard of the Nogitsune. Supposedly it was extremely dangerous and evil. "Is he okay now."

"Yeah, Stiles is fine. He's probably still a little shaken up though."

"So... does he have a girlfriend?" I couldn't stop the words from coming out of my mouth.

Derek's eyes widened in surprise, but then he began laughing. "Stiles does not have a girlfriend."

"Oh, okay." I said sheepishly.

"What, do you like him?" Derek teased me.

"Shut up." I glared at him, but my lips seemed to pull upward.

Derek's face turned serious all of a sudden. "Katy?"

"Yeah?"

"Can you please try and stay out of the supernatural stuff."

"I'll try, but I think we both know eventually I'll start to help out with the supernatural."

Derek sighed, "I know, it's just you're the closest thing I have to family right now, besides Peter, and I don't want to loose you."

"Same here, well, besides James."

Derek smiled, then looked down at his watch. "Crap. I'm supposed to be at a pack meeting in ten minutes."

"Need a ride?" I offered.

"That would be awesome."

We arrived at Derek's loft in no time, and other cars were already there. Derek quickly gave me hug before getting out of the Jeep.

"Bye Katy."

"See you later Derek." I drove off back towards my house, extremely tired. Hopefully I could get more sleep there.

*Stiles POV*

We were all already in Derek's loft, only problem was, Derek himself wasn't even there. Scott was pacing the room. Right after Katy left Scott's house, we had gotten a video call from a strange man. He had seemed to be surrounded by water, and behind him a women was hanging upside down, just above water. He told us unless we brought some princess of the sea, the lady would die. That's why we came to Derek's.

I heard a car pull up. What? This car was loud, so even I could hear it. I walked over towards the window and saw Katy's Jeep.

"Scott? Why is Katy here?"

"What?" Scott rushed over to the window, and looked at the car.

Only Derek got out of the car, but I could tell Katy was also in there. I could also tell had Derek just hugged her by the way he leaned back into the Jeep. I felt a pinch of jealousy, but decided to ignore it. Derek walked towards the building while car drove off, and it wasn't long before the werewolf walked in.

"Why was Katy with you?" Scott and I asked at the same time.

The other pack members heads snapped up, confused.

"What are you talking about?" Derek asked, pretending to be clueless.

"Derek," Scott growled.

"Fine. Katy and I are old friends. She was closer friends with Laura, but we still used to hang out. So once I heard she was in town,I decided to see if she wanted to hang out."

My eyes widened, "Wait, if she knew Laura and you, does that mean she knows about..."

Scott's eyes seemed to bulge out of his head at what I was suggesting.

Derek hesitated, "Yes, she promised to stay out of the supernatural stuff."

"Is she supernatural herself." Malia asked.

Derek hesitated even longer before answering, "No."

Lydia, Allison, and I all looked at Scott to see if Derek was telling the truth. Scott slightly shook his head No, and my heart skipped a beat. Katy is supernatural.

"You can't lie to us!" Issac said.

Derek sighed, then looked slightly guilty. "Look, What Katy's species is extremely rare. I can't tell you guys what she is. It's really hard to gain back their trust after you've lost it. She has to tell you guys herself."

Scott nodded, "Okay, but we should probably focas on this video."

"Great, lets play this thing," Kira said.

Lydia pulled up the video that had been sent to her computer, and pressed play as we all got silent, waiting for it to start. The black screen quickly lit up, and it showed the man with the lady behind him. Derek's breath hitched.

"Hello, McCall pack. I am... well, I actually won't give you my name is what's the fun in that?" The man chuckled, a evil look in his eyes. Behind him, the lady tried to scream, but since her mouth was covered, barely any sound came out. "Oh do shut up. Anyway, I have a proposal to make. I've heard that a certain someone just moved to your town. She is rather special to me, actually, they both are. I like to call them the prince and princess of the sea. Bring them both to me, and this lady shall live. If not, let's just say it'll be like she's a fish out of water when she dies."

The video ended just as quickly as it started, but Derek looked a little shaken up.

"Dude, you okay?" Scott asked him.

"Um, yeah. It's just, she looked familiar." I could tell Derek wasn't telling us everything, but I decided not to push, as we would probably get nothing from it.

I glanced at the pack, and could tell they were thinking the same thing.

"Okay, well, we need to get ideas of where this guy is in case we can't find whoever he's talking about." I said.

"Well, he is obviously surrounded by water." Lydia said, pointing at the water the girl hung above.

"But it only seems to be a small amount. Look, it's really just a mini pool." Allison said.

Malia sighed thoughtfully, and we all looked at her.

"What is it?" I asked.

"Oh nothing, it's just, when I was in coyote form, I stumbled across this place that looked exactly like this place in the video. Actually, not exactly like it, but pretty similar. One night while I was trying to sleep, some people just emerged from the water, and the minute they saw me, they went back under. I never saw them again, but everyday when I woke up, fish was just laying there, waiting for me. Eventually I left, but it was still really cool."

"Do you think that's where this man is now?" Liam asked her.

"He is definitely in a place like the one I was at, but it isn't the exact same. The walls of the cave are a different color." Malia told us.

"I'll look into caves that have some kind of water source in them," Lydia said.

I nodded, "Great, I'll do the same."

One by one, we all left the loft, except for Derek, and the idea that Katy was supernatural had started to leave my mind. Now, all I could think about was where this man was keeping the girl, and how we could save her without giving him two innocent lives.
