"Eurydice, breakfast is ready!" Mom calls.I groaned as I arose from my deep slumber to my mother's voice. It was a warm Saturday morning in the beautiful city of Denver, Colorado. It was also the first day of my summer holidays.
My mother, Misha, was always awake before the sun even came up. She liked to prepare for the day before it even began. She was a short woman in her mid-30's with a cute, bright face with short brown hair.
"Coming, mommy!" I yelled back, groggily.
I brushed my teeth and washed my face before I headed down the staircase. The savory aroma of eggs and toast filled my nostrils as I reached the kitchen.
"Mmmm, Mom, what smells so great?" I said, my mouth watering as I gave my mom a hug.
"Here, sweetie. I made a plate for you with your breakfast just the way you like it - scrambled eggs with spinach and bell peppers and two pieces of toast!"
"Thanks, you're the best," I replied.
"So, what are your plans for today?" Mom asks.
I suddenly remembered that I was supposed to meet Jas and Liv at 11:30 at the Beanery. I whipped my head to look at the clock and almost fell out of my chair as I realized it was already 10:30.
Hurriedly, I finished my breakfast and took a big gulp of my juice and ran upstairs to get ready. I decided to keep my look casual today and picked out a pair of cute denim shorts and a white baseball tee, with my red hi-top converse. I set out a cute black baseball cap with a Kermit meme sipping tea.
I took a quick shower and applied some mascara and hastily got dressed. I almost fell as I rushed down the stairs and gave my mom a quick kiss goodbye as I grabbed my car keys.
I sped (carefully) to The Beanery and luckily, found a great parking spot. I rushed inside and saw my friends, but before I could greet them - CRASH! I felt the stranger and myself tumble to the floor in a heap.
"I'm so sorry! I should've been looking where I was going! Are you alright?" I breathed as I brushed myself off.
The stranger was a handsome young man with minty blue hair and fair skin. He was wearing a red sweater with ripped jeans and white sneakers. I think he seemed to be around 5'9" and in his mid-20's.
"Yes, I'm fine, thank you. Are you okay?" He replied.
"Yes, I'm so sorry! Please let me buy you a coffee!" I said, apologetically.
"Actually, I'll take you up on that offer. I'm new around here," he said.
"Would you like to join my friends and I? We are sitting over there," I said as I waved to a table in the back where two young girls were seated next to each other.
"Yeah, that would be great! Thanks!"
I gave our orders to the barista and headed for Jas and Liv. Jas was a cute 20-year-old girl with long, brown hair and big, round glasses. She was one of my classmates from college and one of my best friends since elementary school. You could say that we were joined at the hip. Then, there was Liv. Liv was an interesting one. I had known her since high school, yet she always found a way to surprise me. The 20-year-old had a cute little button nose and big doe eyes that seemed as though they absorbed everything they looked at. The three of us were the best of friends and we did everything together. Sure, we had some fights along the way, but that's what made us stronger. They have always been by my side, no matter what.
As we reached the table, I gave my friends a big hug since it had been a long 24 hours without them.
"Hey, guys! Long time, no see! This is ..." I trailed off as I realized I never asked for the stranger's name.
"Yoongi. My name is Min Yoongi," he filled in.
"Right, sorry," I giggled. "I'm Eurydice, but my friends call me Eury for short. This is Jas and this is Liv," I said as I introduced everyone.
As soon as we sat down, our barista brought us our drinks and we started chatting.
"So, Yoongi. You mentioned that you were new here. What brings you to Denver, of all places?" I ask.
"I'm just here to visit my family for the summer. I came with some of my best friends. We needed a kind of getaway after this absolutely stressful year."
"That sounds about right," Jas replied. "We just finished with school yesterday."
"Oh, what are you all studying?" he asks.
"We're all majoring in Marine Biology," Liv answered. "How about you?"
"No, I already graduated. My friends and I all have, but it's just been a hectic year with work."
"Yeah, we can understand. We all have part-time jobs. I work here, at The Beanery. I have a few days off until I have to go back to work. Jas and Liv both work at the Sephora in the mall," I said.
We continued chatting for a good two hours and got to know Min Yoongi. I don't know why, but he just looked so familiar to me. Much too soon, it was time for us all to part ways. We exchanged phone numbers with Yoongi and watched him walk away.
After he was out of earshot, I said, "Hey, guys... Did he look the least bit familiar to you? I'm not sure, but I get the feeling that I've seen him before."
"Maybe you just thought he was so cute that you wished you'd met him before," Jas replied.
"No, he is cute, but that's not what I meant," I laughed. "Anyway, I guess I'll see you guys soon? I've got a shift starting Monday, so I'm going to get in as much R&R as I can. Text me if you want to meet up tomorrow. Bye!" I waved to the girls as I got in my car and watched them disappear in my rear view mirror.
