Warning: Swearing
Summary: The one where you and Tyler finally talk about things and also there's dinner.
-------
Your graduation had been weeks ago, Tyler didn't say a single word to you. You had tried talking to him multiple times but he always turned away. You ended up deciding to go to college, having no reason to stay in your hometown anyway.
You heard about him for the first time in weeks when your mom talked about him winning a big basketball game. Your stomach had dropped the second she mentioned his name. All your feelings towards him flooded back into your thoughts, the love, the anger, the disappointment. You quickly excused yourself from the call and tried to desperately forget about him again.

Tyler P. O. V
It was shortly before Christmas and like always your family was being invited for Christmas dinner at the Y/L/N's home. He did not know if her family knew about what happened. His family didn't know what had happenend between the both of you, only Zach knew a little bit. Because he himself didn't even know what really happened. All he knew was that he fucked up badly and that he made a very big mistake. He always drove by her house on his way to work, so naturally also on his way back. Like always he shot their driveway a short glance, and this evening he nearly crashed his car. There she was, in the driveway. She was hugging her mother, it must have been here, how could he mistake her.
Guilt took over his body, he chewed on his lip while driving back home. He sighed to himself as he turned the car off. "Fuck fuck fuck", he whispered to himself and placed his head on the steering wheel. He knew this was his chance, his opportunity to work things out.
His mother stood in the kitchen when he came into the house. "Tyler", her voice was cheery, "Y/N is back". His face dropped immediately, he didn't have a sad expression on his face it was more concentration and inner struggle that was being reflected. "Oh honey, what is bothering you?", she went up to hug her son but got shrugged off. "I, I just need a little time to think. I'm gonna skip dinner, sorry mom", he climbed the stairs before she could respond. Once he was settled in his room, words and actions seemed to fly around in his head making him slightly dizzy. He played out every situation there was, what he would say to her, when and how she would react. Maybe he shouldn't say anything, maybe it was too late and she could never forgive him. He stared at the ceiling for hours trying to find the right words, he had only a few days to get her back, to make her his.

It was the day of the Christmas Dinner, dooms day. At least that was what it felt like to Tyler.  He got ready way too early, playing out every possible situation in his head over and over until his mom called him down. They drove to their house all together, the rest of his family joking around while he played with his fingers trying not to vomit because of the nervousness.
When they arrived he was the last one to get out of the car, Tyler slowly followed his family and hugged YN's family on his way into the house. She was nowhere to be seen and he did not know if this made him feel better or worse. They all had sat down on the long table that was covered in food when she came down the stairs. He felt like his heart stopped for a second, not only was she stunning but he felt that feeling he tried to suppress again.
She looked up and apologised for being late as she sat down, across from him. Their eyes met multiple times during the dinner and everytime one of them looked away quickly hoping the other didn't notice them.

Dinner had finished and everyone had settled around the house. Tyler's mom was helping in the kitchen, the rest spread around the living room talking. Tyler saw her walking down the hallway towards the stairs and there was a single thought occupying his head.

Tell her.

Your P. O. V
You were planning on leaving the gathering unnoticed after everyone had settled down. You made your way to the stairs, hoping you could escape to your room when a hand was placed on you shoulder. You put a fake smile on before turning around. That smile left your face as soon as you saw him.

"Tyler", you chocked out. "Please, just trust me", he grabbed you hand and pulled you towards the back door. At first you wanted to resist but did decide against in, you hoped it would be over sooner if you just let it happen. The cold air gave you chills when you stepped out of the house and into your backyard. You walked through the garden for a moment in silence before you spoke. "Tyler, what do you want? Talk to me or I'm going to go back inside", you stopped him and looked at him sternly. "I fucked up okay", you did not expect that type of an answer and took a step back. "I...I said something that was completely ridiculous and wrong, I walked away when I shouldn't have. To come to the point, to use your words: I'm jut gonna tell you. I love you Y/N", his breathing fastened at the end.
Silence fell over the both of you as you tried to comprehend what he had just told you.
"I...no Tyler. That's not fair. That is so not fair. I layed myself out for you back then and you just left me heart broken, I was so disappointed and so....I just felt awful. You wouldn't even talk to me, you didn't explain anything. I ruined our friendship and now you think you can just come here weeks later say I love you and think everything will be fine? No, I'm not a toy you can play with.", you huffed and turned around taking a few steps back towards the house.
His hand grabbed your shoulder again and turned you around.  "No. Y/N, I did not think that this would just fix everything. I'm not stupid. I want to talk to you now, I know that I fucked up and that I shouldn't have walked away or at least talked it out with you but no I didn't. I want to apologise for that and I want to make it up to you now. I want to explain myself.", he was sincere you were sure of that. "Go ahead", you hugged yourself to not just retain your body warmth but also to contain the frustration that was building up inside of you. His hands dropped from your shoulders as he continued talking. "I was surprised, shoked, I don't know what to call it. There was this feeling I had towards you for a long time now, I never wanted it to be true. I did not know where to put it, how to call it. Now I'm pretty sure it's love but I just didn't want it to be true. I was scared, you know me and love we were never a good mix", he sighed and interrupted himself for a second. You thought back to the times where Tyler did have a girlfriend, he always ended up broken, not just heartbroken but you felt like they always broke a part of him. "Especially because I knew the end of school was coming up, you always talked about going to that college. I know I wanted to stay here at the end but you didn't and you were so happy today when you talked about your education, I didn't want to keep you from the right decision. Before I talk further I want you to know, no matter how this night is going to end I want you to make the decision, to make the decision that will make you feel the best.", he smiled at you and it was so pure you wanted to start crying.
"I care about you so much, I can't explain it better than that I was scared. I was scared of what would have happened if I stayed, if I confessed my feeling for you. I'm sure it would have worked out perfectly but I shit no I am still scared. I am so anxious, I don't know how to say this. I want to be there for you and I feel like I am not myself without you but I don't want to pressure you into anyth", he stopped talking when you pulled him into a hug. You pressed his body as close to yours as humanely possible. "Tyler, we will work this out. I swear to you it is going to be fine, one way or another", you rubbed circles on his back. You felt a stone fall from your shoulders; you both were on the right path again. "I'm sorry', he whispered and tried to pull you even closer. When you ended the hug your whole body started to shiver and you finally realised how cold you were after being outside in the freezing cold for far too long without enough clothes. "Shit", you heard him whisper next to you as he realised how badly you were freezing.

Somehow both of you ended up in your room, now sitting next to each other on your bed talking about random things, mostly about what was happening in your lifes but also other things. Tyler had talked to his family and told them he would stay a little longer so that they wouldn't bother the two of you. He had one arm around you and every now and then he pulled you closer to his body.  You ended up resting your head on his chest while he played with your hair.

Whenever you looked up the dim lights made his eyes glow ever so slightly. Your eyelids felt heavy and you sighed happily as you enjoyed his presence and the soft touch in your hair. You started drifting off to sleep only a short while after you stopped talking, both of you were simply enjoying the comfortable silence. He must have thought you were already asleep when you heard a faint "I love you Y/N". You had just enough energy left to whisper a "I love you too Ty", back before you fell asleep in his arms.
