"Be that strong girl that everyone knew would make it through the worst, be that fearless girl, the one who would dare to do anything, be that independent girl who didn't need a man; be that girl who never backed down," ~ Taylor Swift
🔥Kiara's POV🔥
The shots are firing at us rapidly, hitting the sand, which flew an inch or two in the air before landing back on the ground. Everyone ran off. I run off in a direction and stop when I hear someone fall. I turn around to see Aaron lying there, his stomach bleeding. He was shot.
I am debating whether or not to leave him. I sigh and run over and pull him onto his feet. The moment I touch his arm, I sense the coolness of it., like the first time you jump into a pool at the beginning of summer. I somehow find relief in that feeling. He looks shocked as I help him up and I can tell he is about to say something. I look at him, giving the dont-be-stupid look and he looks away as we retreat into the forest.
~
We have been running, or walking I should say, through the forest for I don't know how long until we made it to my cave. The fire wall remains, spreading light across the forest floor as the sun starts to set. I remove the wall and help Aaron in. I lie in on the ground away from my bed and he groans in pain. I put the fire wall back up and look at his stomach. A small hole is seen where the bullet went through. I gulp as I slowly remove the shirt surrounding it, sticky with his blood. I roll his shirt up and have him hold it there.
I am not the world's best medic, but I can heal the common wound. I study it to see if the bullet went clean through. It didn't. Surgery time, my favorite. I stand up and grab some small knives I made specifically for this. I return to Aaron, who grits his teeth in pain. I summon a small ball of fire in my hand and sterilize the blades. Hopefully this will make things easier.
Aaron looks at me and sees me burning the blades, "w-what are you doing?" He asks, stammering a bit as waves of pain hit him. I look at him and our eyes meet but I quickly look away. I close my hand and the fire disappears once I am down. I grab some bandaging before digging in for the bullet.
I put the tip of one blade in the whole and Aaron winces and yells through his gritted teeth in pain as the heat touches the wound. I gives him an apologetic look before opening the wound more so I could dig around for the bullet, making sure I don't cut any vital organs.
~
It was disgusting. Digging inside A body for a bullet. Well, I have done it before with deer to get all the meat. But never a human. After I took the bulls out, I had him wash it with some water then I stitched the wound up with some sort of string I made. I then wrap the bandage around his stomach. I sit down away from it as he lowers his shirt. I stand up and peek through the fire wall to make sure that whoever was shooting at us didn't follow us.
"Thank you," Aaron says softly. I turn around to look at him. He is sitting up now, running a hand through his dark hair. I smile and nod a bit and sit down by the fire. I grab some meat and lay it on the fire, "so, this is your home," Aaron says, looking around.
"It's not much," I say softly, "but it works," Aaron smiles faintly. I poke the meat with a stick as I watch it burn, making sure it won't burn completely.
"I'm sorry for that argument earlier," Aaron says. I look up at him, shocked, "you were right. We are too dangerous to live in the real world-" he looks like he is about to go on and on, but I stop him.
"Aaron," I say, smiling a genuine smile, "it's fine. I thought you weren't one for apologies," he rolls his eyes and smiles.
"Ha ha," he says mockingly as I laugh a bit, "I thought you never showed your emotions," I blink and sigh, picking the meat up and setting it on a leaf for him. I lean against the wall, the leaf with the meat I am going to eat on it.
"I am one of those girls who doesn't show her emotions when she hardly knows the person," I say, looking at the fire then looking at Aaron, who is watching me. I blush slightly as I start to eat in silence.
"You hardly know me," he says softly. I look at him and am confronted with his eyes. I smile faintly.
"That isn't true," I say, "we have been on the same island for almost a year, so I do know you. Just not that much," he looks down at the cave floor. We eat in silence, not saying another word. The sun sets and I walk over to my bed. Aaron is lying in the same spot. I lie down on my bed and notice him staring at me.
"Good night," I say before turning my back towards him and closing my eyes, falling asleep instantly.
~~~~~
I wake up about mid day. You could hear the birds chirping noisily behind the firewall. Then fire cracked in the small fire pit I made, slowly dieing due to the lack of fuel. I look up to see Aaron staring at me. I raise an eyebrow and yawn while staring back at him. He smiles before standing up and stretching. I grab my quiver and bow and stand up as well. I twist backward, hearing the sound of my back cracking.
"Morning," Aaron says while grabbing his sword. I give him a small smile and walkover to the fire wall, "what are you doing?" Arron asks right when I was about to take the wall down. I look back at him, confused.
"What?" I ask.
"What if those people who shot at us are out there?" He says cautiously. I roll my eyebrows and turn back around.
"Don't be a wimp," I say with a smirk, "we have something they don't?"
"Love?" He says as a joke. But I am unamused. I whirl around to fast and I twist my ankle and collapse. I shut my eyes in pain, forgetting about the retort I was going to make. Aaron rushed over to me and grins. I glare up at him. He quickly looses the grin and goes to check my ankle, which I am rubbing gently with my hands. I flinch when is cold fingers touch my bare skin. He looks up at me seriously and looks into my blue eyes with his sea foam colored eyes. Something in them calms me down. I study his eyes, trying to read any emotion in them. (A/N: random switch to 3rd person) But no matter how hard she tried to focus on reading his emotions, she never could. She found herself focused on his eye color. She found comfort in the sea foam color of his eyes, "I won't hurt you," she jumps from her daze when Aaron says those four words that make her somehow trust him. And for the first time in forever, fire lets water heal it. Aaron examines the ankle and dares to touch the warm skin again.
"What?" She asks him, eyes full of worry that she might have broken her ankle. Aaron looks at her and smiles.
"You just sprained your ankle," he says, "you can still walk on it but go easy, try not to put to much wait on it for two days," Kiara nods, thanking him silently before standing up. She puts her hand on his shoulder as support, but she leans into his ear and whispers.
"It isn't love," she says softly, her warm breath sending shivers down his back, "it is the powers we wield. With them, nothing can stop us," she then stands up and turns to the wall. With one swipe of her hand, the fire dissolves and they are met with the forest, looking as silent and deadly as ever as it just sat there, letting the wind blow the vegetation around while the trees sat firmly like guards at their post. Kiara and Aaron step out of the cave, taking in their surroundings. Kiara turns around and raises another fire wall to protect her cave home. She returns to her spot beside Aaron and looks at him.
"You ready?" She asks softly, as if any loud noise would bring the enemies to them. Aaron looks at her then back at the forest.
"Yeah,"
Author's Note:
Idk why I did a random switch to 3rd person. I just randomly started typing like that.
Due to that, I think I will have a mixture or certain people POVS and 3rd person. I will most likely do 3rd person every chapter and throw in someone's POV here and there.
Thanks for Reading!
