Five | 'Daddy'
"You know Morgy, it's been so long since I've talked to you," Stephanie squeezes her daughters shoulder. "That's because you blocked me on facebook," Morgan sighs. "Is that right? When did I do that?" Stephanie asks absently. "It doesn't matter. Everyone is here to welcome you guys back home. Nana, Aunt Kim, Great-Aunt Nancy and Great-Uncle Jim; even Ellie came," Stephanie smiles. "I was wondering who's cars these were. It's so nice to breathe in fresh air. Miami is full of pollution, you know. Even if Ma wasn't sick, I would've came home soon. I really hate it out in the city, but David loves it- speaking of which you didn't greet him. Go on; give your daddy a hug," Stephanie insists, pushing Morgan towards him.
He crosses his arms, and gives an exasperated sigh. "Um, Mom? My daddy died 19 years ago. Remember? The mill accident?" Morgan says lightly. Stephanie stops in her tracks. "Of course I remember that. I just mean, he treats you like a daughter, and since we're getting married soon- "Stephanie, fathers don't post messages on facebook cussing you out. I just think- "Stephanie! David! So good to see you two!" Kim walks out onto the porch, where she had presumably been listening in.
"Hey little sis!" Stephanie calls to her. Morgan shakes her head. I swear, this woman is bipolar, she thinks. She takes Poppy out of Kim's arms, and walks into the house. David brushes past her, knocking his shoulder into her. "Watch it," she threatens. He just ignores her and goes into the house. Kim walks over to her, and grabs her elbow. "Just breathe, sweetie. Just calm down. It's only temporary. And if you get too fed up, come stay with me. Nana will be okay,"she hugs her. Kim had been more of a mother to her than anyone had ever been.
And it wasn't suprising she had two girls of her own, and took in Lucy like a champ.Adrianna was twelve, and down in Mississippi with her father and his girlfriend, but would be home in a week. Paloma, or Poppy, was 9 months old, and Morgan was just surprised Gary could get it up enough to have a baby. He had three kids, two girls and a boy, but Lucy was really only the only one who came around. Lucy was fourteen, and angsty. Blake, was also twelve, and lived in Kansas. Parkyr was 19, and lived in New York. Nana Barb was friends with her grandmother, Lacey White, but that ended when Aunt Kim married Gary.
Morgan didn't mind Blake, nor Parkyr, but Lucy; Lucy drove her up the wall sometimes.
"You okay to go in?" Kim's voice interrupts. "Uh, yeah. Let's go," they wrap their arms around each other's shoulders, and walk drunkenly towards the house, mocking Stephanie after a bender.
