Never in your wildest dreams have you ever thought you'd be seeing Daniel ever again. Especially here. But he was standing right in front of you, with the eyes you once thought were astoundingly mesmerising and the voice that could both break and fix your heart at the same time.
"Niel..." The name slipped through your lips and nothing more followed. Right when you thought you had finally moved on, when you were finally contented with what you had, he just had to come here and throw everything back into that damned tornado.
Daniel took a step forward. And then another.
"Why?" you said, and he stopped. You tried not to let it show; the hurt, the fear in your voice not because you were afraid of Daniel but of yourself.
Why was he here when he was supposed to be miles and miles away from where he was supposed to be sitting on a bench in a park, laughing at ridiculous jokes with Sejeong after a tiring day of study and assignments?
"Daniel, why are you here?"
Daniel's lips parted, as if he wanted to say something but decided against it. You stared at him in disbelief, your heart beating so hard against your chest you felt it's vibrations on your skin.
And then he said it, almost inaudibly. Like a whisper carried off by the wind. The words you have always wanted to hear him say to you. "Because I'm in love with you."
But the keyword was wanted. Wanted.
The words rang in your head like an echo bouncing back and forth against the walls of your skull. Because I'm in love with you.
A bush rustled from a short distance, and then the faint sound footsteps getting further and further away. But you paid it no mind.
You pushed out a bitter laugh, willing yourself to look away. To look at anything else that wasn't Kang Daniel and his stupid face. Your heart tightened. "Why now of all times?"
Why now when I've finally learned to be happy without you?
"I wasn't happy," Daniel answered. "I... I thought I was. For a long time. But when you weren't there it was like a part of me was missing. I couldn't laugh, I couldn't eat, I couldn't study, I couldn't focus on anything--"
"What does Sejeong have to say about this?" You finally caught Daniel's gaze, a determined look in your eyes.
Without hesitating for just one second, Daniel replied. "We broke up." He scanned your eyes for a flicker of emotion and added, "I ended things with her."
It took you awhile to fully register his words, but when you did, you shook your head in utter disbelief. "No, Daniel. You can't be doing this, this is insane. You have to go back--"
