CHAPTER ONE, THE GLADE

"Hey, Psst, greenie, wake up!" Newt whispered, getting slightly closer to the girl.

Marie sat up, quickly, heart beating fast as she forgot for a moment where she was, then pieces of what had happened the day before came back to her in flashes and her mouth got pulled into a frown, she sighed sadly, hoping everything had been a dream after all but it wasn't and she was indeed stuck on a farm with a bunch of teenage boys.

Marie looked at the boy, eyebrows furrowed and a frown still set on her face as Newt's confused face came into view, his hair messy and his face too close to her's. The boy gave her a smile, him finally standing back, hands on his hips. "Morning, Marie, rise and shine."

Marie looked outside the small window in the room, eyebrows furrowed she noticed it was still slightly dark, the sun had barely come up. "Morning?"

Newt glanced at the window too, a sheepish smile on his lips and a breathy chuckle left his mouth, he took a seat next to the girl. "Alby wants to give you the tour before the gladers wake up. Frypan's already cooking breakfast.

Marie simply nodded, wiping her face, saddened by the realization of where she is. Newt glanced at Marie, him noticing how her feelings had changed quickly, he sighed, taking a seat beside her. "I know it's going to take time to get used to a place like this, especially after forgetting everything you ever loved and being the only girl can't be a bloody fun thing but I promise I can try and make this a little easier for you."

Newt's warmth and loving attitude radiated off him, Marie suddenly feeling better, she glanced at him, giving him a warm smile. Newt returned it, standing up and giving her a hand to stand up as well, which she did so. He put his hand on his hip, motioning to a small chest of drawer in the corner of her side of the room. "The shuck-faces built you this, that box is everything you need, I guess."

"It's nice to know that whoever sent us here is considerate." Marie huffed out, sarcastically making Newt chuckle at her remark.

"Well, I'll let you look through this. If you want to shower and use the bathroom, I'd suggest using it while the gladers are sleepin'. They're bloody nasty, can't keep their hands to themselves." Newt shakes his head, disgusted, rolling his eyes as well, he was referring the constant stares and whistles Marie had been receiving since she had arrived, she admitted that it made her extremely uncomfortable.

Marie nodded, agreeing with him while speaking softly. "They do have locks right?"

Newt tried not to let a laugh out of his mouth, nodding his head at her, while keeping his lips in a thin line. "Yes, Marie, they do."

Newt then waved her off, leaving the girl alone in the small room, with the two beds squished in the space, there was barely space to move freely, but Marie appreciated being far away from the hormonal boys who had not given her any space. She made her way to the box, deciding to finally look through the things that were sent. The box consisted of two pairs of knee length jeans, and two of cargo pants along with one pair of sweatpants, both stretched till her ankles. Two tank tops, a thin hoodie and a few blank t-shirts. At the sight of her undergarments a thankful sigh left her lips as she rummaged through hygiene products.
