Alan's POV

I smiled as I saw my boyfriend's name flash up on my phone. He was stationed all the way in Iraq and he was supposed to be getting on a flight home soon for Christmas. I couldn't wait. I hadn't seen him in eight months now and it sucked. I missed him so much and him being so far away made things hard, but he was so worth it. He was amazing and we'd been dating for nearly two years now.

He was my everything.

"Hey Vince, you boarding soon?" I asked right away.

He hesitated, "About that..."

"Oh no, what is it?" I said frowning.

"I won't be able to come home," Vic said quietly. "Captain said that we were going to have to move out on another mission soon. There was a bomb somewhere close apparently."

"Oh... okay, but Christmas is only a few days away! Can't they let you come back for a few days or something before they have you guys go out on this?"

"Apparently it's life or death or something like that, we're leaving now," he told me. "Ash, I'm so, so sorry. I was so excited to come home."

I sniffled, "Okay, I love you."

"Baby please don't cry," he begged.

"I'm not, I'm not. Look I gotta go my mom needs help with some stuff before the Christmas party tomorrow. Love you," I said before I hung up. Maybe it was selfish of me, but I wanted to see him. Eight months is a long time and I just wanted one day with him. I just missed him more than anything.

"Was that Vic?" my mom asked coming into my room. I didn't live here anymore, but my room was still pretty much intac. I was only here for the next few days to help her out with this party and Christmas cookie making.

I nodded, "He can't come home."

"Oh honey, I'm so sorry," she said frowning.

"It's okay," I sniffled.

"Come here," she said, pulling me into her arms.

"I just wanted him home, is that too much to ask for?"

"I know sweetie, but there'll be more Christmas' and holidays to spend with him."

"I know that, I know."  I let out a sigh and pulled away. "I just want him to be done already. I miss him so much it's insane."

"He'll be home soon, just give him time." She gave me a small smile. "Think of it this way, his tour ends in four months. Then he won't be deployed anymore."

I wiped my eyes, "I know, I'm staying positive about it. I'll see him soon and I can live with that."

"He's going to be home soon."

"You keep saying that, but I have to wait for like four extra months now before i can see him."

"I know. Now come help me finish up a few things for tomorrow and then get to bed. We have a long day tomorrow."

I nodded and went to help her with a few things before I went to bed for the night. It was a restless night of sleep since I knew Vic wasn't going to be here today. I was looking forward see him today and just spending time at this agonizing party with him. We always made fun of our families getting together and the friends that they always invited.  It was always the worst part of Christmas and now I was going to have to suffer alone.

I got up for the day and got ready before I went down and helped my parents get the party set up. People were slowly starting to arrive and it was fine really. I was doing my best to be social and have a good time, but I wanted Vic.
