(Paris 1870)

The cold wind blew into Paris and the sky started to snow filling the streets in all white. It's December 1st and it's only the beginning of the Christmas holiday. Every shop around Paris are setting up decorations as well as putting up prices for their customers. But the grand area that centers around them is the Opera House. "Alright, everyone!" Firman called out. "Please, I must have silence." He shouted as the crowd died down their conversations. "Thank you. As you all know, today is Dec.1st and it's the beginning of the holiday season. So, today. We will not be rehearsing. Instead, we shall be decorating the theatre to celebrate Christmas with our fellow Parisians." Firman announced. This has gotten everyone excited that rehearsals are cancelled but is replaced with Christmas decorating. "But, Monsieur Firman. I don't think he would allow us to decorate his Opera House." Madame Giry acknowledged. "And why not?" Andre asked the ballet director. "He has forbidden Christmas to ever be displayed in his domain." Giry answered. This shocked everyone that The Phantom would forbid a very special holiday. Only one person could step in when it came to him. The woman of his life, Christine Daae. "But Christmas is a wonderful time. It's about being with friends and family and enjoyed the greatest gift of all, the gift of our Lord and Savior. This is the only time everyone around the world put their differences aside and showed their good heart and Christmas has that special feel in the air that makes you warm inside your heart." She spoke out. Everyone applauded her except for Carlotta. "You're only saying that because the ghost has his eyes on you." the prima donna spatted at Christine. "Well, this year. We will make it special not only for this place of magic, but for the Phantom as well." Christine fought back. "That's the spirit, Ms. Daae. And because of that spirit, you will be in charge of the decorating." Firman spoke. Carlotta's jaw dropped as Christine was appointed Head of the Christmas Decoration. The entire cast and crew applauded for Christine and she took a bow. But as everyone was ready to set the decorations, Madame Giry left silently and head down to the bottom of the Opera House leading towards The Phantom's lair.

As she enters to the entrance, she can hear his playing Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D minor. She knew that if he plays any music in a minor key, The Phantom is in a bad mood. She then docks the boat and let him finished playing. "I know you're behind me, Madame Giry." The Phantom spoke. "I have news to tell you." Giry said to him as he stopped playing. "Is Christine hurt?" He asked her. If it involved her, the Phantom would go up and protect his Angel of Music. "No, she is alright." Giry assured him. "Then what bad news do you have for me?" The Phantom asked impatiently "The managers have decided to decorate the Opera House for Christmas." Giry let it out knowing that it was not going to be a pretty answer. She waited for him to lose his temper but to see nothing. "So...this day has come." He said quietly. This puzzled her. "I always knew those idiots would disapprove of my warnings but to bring Christmas to my home, I always feared someone would." Giry then stood by his side and placed her hand on his shoulder. "They appointed Christine to be in charge of the decorating of your home. And she wants to give you the perfect Christmas." She tells him soothingly. "Christine?" He gasped. "She wants to give me a perfect Christmas?" He asked. Giry nodded only to not hurt his heart. "She doesn't really know how I feel about Christmas." He said to himself. "She doesn't. No one knows why you despise this holiday." She tells him. "They don't understand that all my life, I never celebrated Christmas with anyone. No friends, no family. I was all alone." He spoke. She kept her hand on his shoulder. "But since I am the only one who does not wish to celebrate it, I do not wish to break Christine's heart. Let her decorate the Paris Opera House and let her enjoy Christmas here." He tells Madame Giry. This surprised her. "Are you sure?" She asked him. "As long as I am not around to celebrate Christmas, yes." He answered coldly. He curtsy and she leaves him to his loneliness. Above the ceilings of his home, he can hear every singing Hark The Herald Angels Sing which he does not like to hear. He hates anything related to Christmas, especially Christmas Carols. "Bah, Humbug!" He spatted as he decided to compose some music to get his mind off of it.
