"Ashton Irwin and Joelle Webb" Joelle announced, standing next to Ashton whilst the teacher attending their half of the year found their precious brown envelopes and handed them over with a smile. This was it.
They found a clear space and Ashton went first - good marks across the board, good enough to get him in to anywhere he wanted to go that was there. He was grinning like the cheshire cat, hugging her and then stepping back "C'mon then princess, show me up with your straight As"
"Oh, shush, you" Joelle hummed, unsealing the envelope and shimmying it out just so she could see her top grade "History... A star" She shimmied a bit more out "English.... A star" She shimmied a smidge more "Math... A star"
"Pull it all out!" He told her, so happy for her that he felt he was about to burst. Ashton had seen this girl grind herself down and work so hard for these grades, and something told him that it wouldn't be the last time that she did.
She rolled her eyes but nodded, sliding it out and spontaneously bursting into tears. Joelle ran towards him, wrapping her arms around him and holding on tight and burying her head into his chest. "Ash, oh my god!"
"Someone's going to oxford, huh?" He smiled, hugging her back "You're so smart, you have no idea how proud I am of you"
"I was only able to do it because of you" Joelle told him, still hugging him, not wanting the hall of her fellow students to see her cry. "I think I'm getting makeup on your hoodie"
"It's alright, it'll wash. What're you doing tonight, Joey?"
"Nothing, why?" She asked, voice muffled by the thick material of the jumper.
"Wanna go out for dinner?" Ashton asked, having already reserved a seat at his favourite restaurant, hoping she'd like it too.
"I'd love to, what time? How formal?" Joelle asked, sliding the brown paper envelope into her bag and heading towards the exit with him.
"Semi-formal, though if you showed up in sweatpants and a jumper I'd still think you looked the best in the room." Ashton told her "Pick you up at six?"
"Mhm, sounds good. Thank you, by the way. I'm sure I wouldn't, though" Joelle told him with a blush rising to her cheeks.
"Are you blushing? Oh my god, you're blushing!" Ashton gasped, pausing in the lonely hallway they were walking down and looking at her with a joyous grin.
"Shush" Joelle huffed softly, looking up at him with a stubborn smile as he swooped down to press a kiss to her lips. She expected the kiss to be subtle, for it to end as soon as it had started, but he just picked her up and carried on kissing her, the hallway still deserted.
"I love you, you know? You don't have to say it back, but-"
"I love you too, you gorgeous idiot. So much" She told him, kissing him again "So, you gonna let me down or am I being carried to the car?"
"Carried" Ashton grinned, wrapping his arms around her "Hold on tight babe" He began to descend down the stairs at a rapid pace, barrelling through the doors and towards the car, his
feet slapping loudly on the pavement.
----
Joelle sat at her desk, clipping her stockings to her garter belt and then sliding her dress back down her thighs. The dress she was wearing was red velvet, rich and almost not classy enough for the restaurant, but it was guaranteed to make Ashton lose his shit. Mission accomplished, Putting on another layer of mascara and lipgloss, she pulled on her leather jacket and looked over at her phone.
