"We said we'd both loved higher than we knew we could go, but still the hardest part is knowing when to let go. You wanted to go higher, higher, higher— we burned too bright, now the fire's gone, watch it all fall down, Babylon."

-Babylon, 5 Seconds of Summer.

♡ ・・・・・・ ♡

Long gone were our university days, half of which were spent denying our inner feelings, and the other half skipping classes to have a steamy make-out session in which I tangled my fingers in his soft blonde hair, he lifted me up with his hands in my waist, and we would end up with blushed faces and swollen lips.

Life had changed so much after school was over that it was hard to catch up, but I was trying my best.

As regards myself, now that I had graduated, I was trying to get used to my new job as an editor. I was also getting used to living in my own flat—although I was rarely found alone. Luke and I practically lived together; I mean, he even kept a toothbrush here and one-too-many pairs of underwear in my drawer.

However, Luke was super busy so I didn't get to see him as much as I did before. 5 Seconds of Summer had recently signed a record deal; hence it was only natural that he and his bandmates were occupied all the time. There were days in which I'd only see him at night when he crashed on my bed at one in the morning looking exhausted and big-spooned me to sleep after a tired kiss. Other days, I would simply wake up to an empty bed after he had fallen asleep in the studio.

Life was good, though. I couldn't exactly complain.

That day was one of those lucky and rare days in which Luke didn't have to stay in the studio, as he gladly let me know via text message one hour before I got out from work. He was excited, that much I could infer from his words, and his excitement utterly and completely matched mine. It was the first time I would be able to spend more than five hours of sleep with him in a month. Only God knew if I was going to have a chance like that one in another month or so.

In addition, the band had released their first single, which peaked at number one in the charts. Therefore, I had one more reason to celebrate, and I wanted to do it big time.

When the clock struck nine, I checked the list I had scribbled on the bus ride: 1) Hair: yes; 2) Fancy shoes: of course; 3) Make-up: nailed it; 4) Hottest dress I owned: worn; 5) Food: his favourite.

I was ready... Or something like that.

The sound of the door startled me as I was lighting up some scented candles knelt down beside my coffee table. I rose to my feet and turned around, expecting to see Luke's face, yet I found a gigantic bouquet of red roses instead. He peeped from behind the flowers.

"Oh, wow," we both exclaimed at the same time and then laughed.

"Here." Luke handed me the gift. Undoubtedly, it was the biggest bouquet that I had ever seen, no joke. The wrapping paper was white and a massive ribbon that matched the roses gave it the final touch. It was beautiful. "Hope you like them."

"I love them! Let me put them in a vase."

I carried the flowers to the kitchen and when I went back, Luke was standing right in the middle of my living room. The room was in itself super tiny and the fact that I had completely packed it with books didn't make it look any larger, yet his mere presence made me feel that I lived in a flat the size of a matchbox.

I stopped right at the threshold and he stared at me.

"You look... Breathtaking. Damn." His words gave rise to a pleased smile on my face. The entire look took a while so I was glad he noticed it.
