Lord Pillet walked over with Robb by his side as he stared down at Sal. "You're hurt, Page Salinda." He remarked. "You should see a healer."
"I'm fine." Sal protested taking a clean part of her tunic and wiping away the blood that was on her collarbone to reveal the nasty gash. She fought a grimace looking at the wound.
Jed, who was sweaty and pale joined them and too grimaced. "You are definitely not fine." He said lifting his hand to let his blue magic dance through his fingers. "I can heal it quickly."
"You look like death." Sal remarked, but Jed ignored and put his cool palm of magic on her gashed wound. The tingling sensation made her squirm, but within moments he pulled back to reveal just scar. Sal gave him a faint smile. "Thank you."
"I'm gonna get a drink." Jed panted. Robb joined him, helping the boy over to where the other pages were, leaving Sal with her father and Lord Pillet.
Lord Pillet knelt down next to her father so that he too was at her height. "Page Robb was telling me that he awoke to the screams of a dead Goulak, and when he finally got his weapons, he saw you were already out here, fully dressed, with ten goulak already dead by your hand." Sal clenched her jaw knowing where this was going. "From this information I can assume you were the first one to spot the goulaks and the one who dispatched the first one who warned the castle of their presence."
Taking a deep breath, Sal nodded. "I had a bad feeling that something was going to attack, so stood guard by the courtyard. That's when I saw them. I know it is against the rules to be out of our rooms after the tenth bell, but I was in fear for the Crown Princes life." She chose to leave out the fact that she was the one who told Master Damin about the oncoming threat, and Lanet's visions. That would just create trouble for them.
The two adults were silent as they listened to Sal. When she finished they shared a look. It was her father who spoke first. "So you're saying you knew these creatures were here to kill the Crown Prince?" He asked giving a short glance over to where Alex stood next to Winston. "How could you know that?"
Still not willing to give up Lanet, Sal came up with a lie. "Why else would the scouting group come to this part of the castle? If they came here to kill, then we can assume they came here to kill the royal bloodline. The Crown Prince is separated from the other royals making him the easiest target." Sal was grateful her words seemed believable, and they seemed to believe her as well.
"If they are after the bloodline, then we should keep the Prince separated from the rest. Just in case something were to happen." Lord Pillet suggested.
Duke Greg nodded. "We'll put Prince Alex in the page dinning hall with a few other pages to protect him."
Sal's blood went cold. This was just how Lanet's vision was. "I'm sure there are better places to hide his majesty." Sal protested.
"No, the dinning hall is far enough away from the other royals, and there is only one point of entrance that is secure enough to hold back most enemies." Duke Greg said talking to his daughter as if she was his equal. He looked to Lord Pillet. "Who would you suggest to help protect Alexander?"
Lord Pillet looked over to his students, silently analyzing them all. "Page Robb, he is one of the senior most pages, and he helped take down many goulak at their camp. Page Duggan, he is the best swordsman in the pages. Page Cedric, he is quick and very good with knives and a bow."
"Let me help too." Sal pipped in, knowing that she was the only one who could stop the horrendous scene she knew was about to unfold. "Master Damin has been teaching me all sorts of magic that can help. Please."
Her father looked like he wanted to argue, but to both of their surprise Lord Pillet spoke. "I believe the page is right. Her magical.... talents have saved her and the others in the past."
