Mitch
I walked through the dark streets of L.A. well after midnight, an oversized hoodie shielding me from the cold wind as I swam in the vast amount of fabric. My hands rested in the pocket on my stomach, I tried to rub them together and ignore the chilly feeling. A sigh escaped my mouth, causing a flurry of air to dance in front of me. I have to admit the journey home from work was usually a cleansing and calm experience but tonight I felt on edge, goosebumps rising on my skin. I shivered as I entered an alleyway.
Buildings beside me stood tall and still, the once warm brick was now chipped and broken. Cigarettes littered the dirty pavement among other garbage, the shadows of the night grew darker in the tiny pathway. I hesitantly trod down the eerie trail, following the dim street light on the other side. I felt the wind pick up and heard the soft patter of feet.
I swerved around ready to find a mugger, but instead, a set of blue eyes stared into me. The blue eyes slowly turned red and I froze, unable to move, not paralyzed in fear but I was stuck. Frozen in time. My eyes widened as I tried to move from the invisible force and scream for help. Against my will, I stood completely still and my lips shut. He lifted his hand into the air making an unknown gesture. My body suddenly felt heavy, my brain felt light and every thought slipped through my fingers. My eyes drooped downwards and my knees quivered and buckled. I fell to the ground but the man grabbed my waist to keep me from hitting the concrete. His lips never moved, but I heard him loud and clear,
"Sleep, my queen."
