The royal family of the kingdom Practian is small, and there are no male heirs.  The king and queen have only one daughter, Pring, whom they are trying to marry off to a prince of their allies.
One day, the king got news of a violent fight between citizens of Praction and a neighboring kingdom, with one dead.  There was tension between these two kingdoms, and the king, Peter, knew it.  So the next morning he rode out to the other kingdom, and arrived as the sun came up the next morning.  King Peter met with the neighboring kingdom's rulers, and made a deal with their king. King Peter's daughter, Pring, and the other king's youngest son, called Kevin, would get married; and in return, the kingdoms would be allies, and could not attack each other.
The kings sat down and discussed the details until everything was settled.  The king of Praction left and went home to tell everyone the good news.
Upon hearing the deal, Pring fled to her chambers in a rage.  Her mother followed after her and tried to console her.  She found Pring sitting on the edge of her silky, pink bed and sat next to her.
"He didn't even ask me!  He didn't even talk to me about this first!"
The queen didn't know what to say.
"Well, he's the king, he has to make these decisions.  And it's for the good of the kingdom."
Pring scoffed and turned away from her mother.   Understanding, the queen left the room, shutting the door behind her.
The young princess did not leave her room that night, not even when a maid came in to tell her that her favorite meal was ready.  Pring laid in bed and thought about what to do.  She knew she could never love or even need a prince.  Living in the palace was just day after day of her parents not listening to her, and Pring was getting tired of it.  Pring just wanted out.  With the last energy she had, Pring gathered her things, some clothes and other necessities, put them in a bag, and snuck out.  She hid her bag from the guards and any other passing staff, as to not look suspicious.  Pring casually and confidently walked out of the palace, careful not to be seen by her parents.
Pring finally made her way to the small servant's door, which she had a key for.  When she opened the door it made a slight creaking noise, and the fresh, crisp air hit her face in a wave.  Pring was finally free.
