Sad Wooden Faces
🔺
🔺 🔺Months went by, and Zelda's belly just grew and grew. It was hard on her though, and possibly even harder on the baby. Link still hasn't returned, and Zelda was falling through a depression. She would often cry herself to sleep, as she sang her own lullaby to the small placenta, that her belly upheld.
Often Zelda would wait, wait some more then fall asleep on the porch. It's been awhile, There should atleast be some kind of notice from Link. It didn't matter how much she waited, because nothing came. It was odd however. She didn't feel as emotionally distraught, as she did the one night. There was a slight sense of enlightenment. She knew Link was both strong, and courageous enough to do anything. She did still, have a pang of worry. Why no message, it was so unlike him, to make her worry so.
Thunder clapped and rolled amongst the darkened sky, as she sat and waited. It was then that she heard the trembling beat of hoofs on ground. Zelda stood up, and focused her sights of into the far distance.
Epona eventually arrived, yet, there she was alone. Link was not cradled on her back, as he usually was. Instead there was a note, and Zelda could easily notice the splotches of red that were dramatically splattered against the parchment.
Zelda hurried over, Epona nuzzled her, as if afraid. It was odd, this horse has endovered so much, it had no reason to be afraid. Zelda grabbed the letter, and it's words made every slight bone on her body tremble.
*Come Zelda, come. It is now the time you choose. Link or that child you now bare, there is no other ultimatum, I will be waiting at the temple of time. *
*--BTW that stupid horse, is better off dead. The blasted thing kicked me, bit me, then damned it all, broke my nose. It's better off being tender meat, that my fellow ladies would love to eat*
*--Sincerely Ganon. *
Zelda crumpled the note, then took a hard look at Epona. Epona snorted hot air out of her nose, then shimmied her head. The horse was also ready to fight. Zelda hopped on, Ganon wasn't going to win, he also wasn't going to get what he wanted. Zelda never would have it. Link and her Child where hers. Ganon will never have that option.
Off they went from the turns and twists, the very ominous paths of the Lost Woods. Epona then stopped. What was with this horse.
There he was, a small Deku Scrub. It looked afraid. His words were a stuttering mess.
"D.d.dooont. I, I."
The Deku Scrub was shaking. It had long leafy vines growing out of the top of it's head like tresses of hair. There were a few wispy, and leafy tendrils, that were also infront of his face.
Zelda let herself off the horse, and cautiously made her way to the little wooden creature. He was shaking, on fear as it looked up towards Zelda. Zelda's long and lean body towered over the little scrub, who only stood about three feet tall.
His huge red and prismatic eyes shut, instantly, as it cowered. The scrubs face, anxiously shook, as it was facing down low. Zelda gave him, a nurturing pat, on its trembling head. The ligneous forest nymph now looked up. He then had a realization, that he was now safe.
"Please tell me, little one. What is it that has you so afraid."
The Deku Scrub's voice was scratchy, and the pitch was a bit high, and nasally.
"My home, destroyed. My mushrooms, all amiss. My children...."
Zelda's own maternal heart sank.
"They are gone. I can't find them. This man took them, he said they were of great use to him. He then said I must find the one dressed in all green. The man said if I told him my plight, he would be the hero. Then my children would be saved, and this green man, will be all his."The scrubs eyes grew glossy, as tiny dew shaped droplets plastered themselves all over the glowing red and orange orbs.
"The green one, he is my husband." Said Zelda. "We will be having a child of our own very soon, and it pains me to see you go through such a devestating trial."
"Where is he," The scrub asked. "Could he really save my children."
"I haven't see him in 3, months." Zelda looked troubled, which also troubled the Deku Scrub aswell.
"Where...where did he go." The scrub asked.
"I have no idea, but his horse returned just a mere hour ago, with this note. That man I think you speak of is Ganondorf."
"Tell me beautiful lady, what is your name." The Scrub sheepishly said. It was then as if a red glowing orb was inside his wooden cheek.
"Zelda, and you.?"
"Birchum," the now meek tree person said. His eyes averting to the ground.
There was then a slight realization, that snapped through his body. Birchum stopped, and looked straight up to Zelda.
"Can I come, my children need me, please." Birchum ran straight towards Zelda, hugging her at her feet.
"I guess I could use the company. " Zelda said with a warm smile. "Come, but be careful, for we are about to embark into a dark abyss."
