Step-by-Step Guide:
- Research herbs.
Figure out which ones you would like to use. Look for properties such as holistic purposes, smells , tastes, garnishes. Be certain that they are edible!
-Understand the difference between bulk tea & tea for the moment.
Bulk tea is the most common way people blend tea. Bulk is a large amount, perfect for a busy bee. Sometimes tea for the moment is best when experimenting with flavor.
- Think about your measurments.
How many cups of tea you do want to make?
Bulk Tea: more than 1/2 Cup of a dried tea blend
Tea for the moment: less than 1/2 Cup of a dried tea blend.
-Create your dried tea blend.
Gather your herbs, mortar & pestle and a mixing bowl.
Basic choosing tips:
Think of your mixing bowl like a pie graph. The entire bowl is 100%.
60% Base herbs
the flavors that you want to stand out the most.30% Medical or hoslitic herbs
10% Garnish or Accent/Spice flavors
Steep your tea:
For one average cup or bottle of tea (up to 8 oz), Only one heaping teaspoon of your dry tea mixture is necessary per cup. Do two teaspoons per cup if you prefer more bold tea.
With a steeper or muslin bag, place it in your cup.
If you are using a teapot you need to know how many cups your teapot holds. Use water & a measuring cup to find out.
Keep this in mind: One teaspoon of tea leaves per average drink.
-Boil your water in a kettle. Even if you want iced tea you still need to brew the tea.
Pour the hot water into your cup or tea pot.
Let the bag sit in the water for 3 to 10 minutes the choice is yours!
If you would like any sugary sweetness, add honey, sugar or Stevia, while the tea is hot and stir it two different times to make sure it dissolves.
Remove the muslin bag or steeper.
Let your drink cool for 5 to 10 minutes before drinking so that you do not burn your tongue! For iced tea, grab a pitcher or a bottle. Fill it with the tea and dilute it to your likings with water. Let it cool in the fridge or in an ice bath for at least 15 minutes.
Store any extra, dry tea mixture in a bag or bpa free container, such as a glass jar.
Voila! You have made your own herbal tea!
