"i am ember
burning down your empire
glowing brighter than the darkness inside of you."

Clary Saltzman thought living in a strange town with her estranged biological father and half-sister would be all she had to worry about...
Clary clicks her tongue, her foot kicking at the sand. A chuckle escapes her lipgloss-covered lips. "They fucking sparkle?"
Lizzie snorts. "Like a disco ball?"
Josie nods in confirmation, her lips tugging up into a smile even though she doesn't want to make fun of them. "Yeah... Their skin is like marble or granite."
"And they're veggies like Stefan Salvatore?" Lizzie asks, genuinely curious. She's always been intrigued with the Salvatores—especially Damon.
It's no wonder that Enzo, the son of Damon and Elena, is also handsome with dark brown hair and striking blue eyes.
And though the couple are human—as well as their daughter Jenna—it doesn't stop them from visiting the school every now and then to check in on everyone.
Josie hums, nodding her head, confirming Lizzie's thoughts. "Their eyes reflect what they eat," she responds, her brown eyes flickering down the beach to where a group of boys are playing football. "For those who feed on humans, their eyes are a deep red. Gold means they drink animal blood."
"So they're no danger then?" Clary asks, her hazel-green eyes watching the waves crashing against the nearby cliff.
Hope looks at Clary. "Do they have control of their bloodlust like the vampires at the school?"
"They didn't kill me, did they?" She asks rhetorically, shrugging just as a football comes flying at her head.
She whips around, catching the ball mid-air, her eyes narrowing at the boys running over to her to retrieve it.
"Sorry," apologises the youngest-looking male, a cute smile on his face. He glances at the girls beside Clary, his eyes widening slightly at Lizzie, who blushes under his stare. "I—I—"
"It's fine," Clary answers, her calm exterior freaking Hope and Josie out more than her scary side.
Honestly, they thought for sure they would've had to hold her back from ripping into the boys.
But Clary isn't angry—she sees the way Lizzie looks at the boy, and how he looks in return at her.
With Lizzie's cute face and heart of gold, you'd think boys would be lining up around the block for her, but that's not the case. People think she's a bitch.
In reality, she's just misunderstood and bipolar, making it easy for her to give into her emotions, something no one realises or even understands.
To see the adoration in the boy's eyes when he looks at Lizzie makes Clary smile.
"Really?" Hope asks in surprise, staring at her best friend, who just tosses the ball to another boy who catches it.
Clary nods before wrapping her arm around Lizzie, and Hope and Josie quickly catch onto why she isn't lashing out. She's just being a best friend to Lizzie.
