I stared at myself in the mirror, mainly at my long curly hair that went past my shoulders. Then I looked at the scissors that I held tightly in my hands, did I have to nerve to do this?

My hair was a prized possession back in Amity, a part of me that made me who I was, but here in Dauntless it was just hair.

I lift the scissors and take the first cut of hair, than the second, then the third. Soon enough my long curly hair now sat upon my shoulders. It was drastic change, but something that needed to be done.

"You cut your hair?" Four asks me as I approached him.

Our friendship wasn't the same after he had kissed me, but over time it healed. Now whenever Eric couldn't meet me for lunch, I would visit Four in the control room instead.

"Yup," I say while sitting on top of a desk, looking at the computer screen.

"Does Eric know?"

I roll my eyes, "I don't need his permission to change my appearance."

He raises his eyebrows in suspicion, already knowing that Eric had no idea. Would he like my changed hair? Would he even notice? Surely he would.

"How's training?" I ask in need for a topic change, I hate talking about Eric and I in front of him.

"They're all basic little shits," he responds causing me to laugh.

"That bad?"

"Not all," he turns towards me with a smile on his face and I already know this was going to be good.

"The stiff, right? Called Eric a bitch first day of training." He can't contain the laughs from coming out and I struggle to do the same.

Once I stop laughing, I'm able to form words. "Poor girl, what did he do?"

"Surprisingly nothing."

I'm taken back from his response, surely Eric would have made her run extra laps or something. Letting that slide was very unusual from him.

My eyes go back to the monitor where I spot Eric heading to the dinning hall, that was my cue to go.

"I've got to go," I say while swinging my legs off the desk.

"Try not to kill any initiates for me."

"Hey," I turn around to see Rosemary jogging towards me.

"Hey," I go in for a kiss but immediately stop, "Your hair."

She looks down at her shoes, as if she's done something wrong. Her hair was now sitting just above her shoulders, it was a choppy, beautiful mess.

I pull her closer towards me and whisper into her hair, "I love it."

"Really?" She asks and I nod.

"Really, now let's go get lunch."

I couldn't help but stare at Rosemary as she debated on whether she wanted a piece of cake or not. The confusion on her face made her look incredibly cute, I couldn't help but laugh.

"Are you laughing at me?" She asks while looking up from the cake.

"No," I lie to her, but she doesn't accept the answer. I can tell by the way she puts her hands on her hips.

"You just look so cute," I tell her, "Now just take the cake."

We got to sit at a table filled with transfers, Rosie insisted on it. I think she's intrigued by the curious Abnegation girl, the same one who made her feel uncomfortable by her stares. The table also consisted of Uriah, Glimmer, Lynn, and Four.

Four and I were never friends, but the shit he attempted only made it worse. Rosie forgave him after time which was the only reason why I tolerated him. If it wasn't for her, he'd probably be dead.

"Hey Rosie," Four greets her earning a glare from me. The stiff seems to notice this, for her eyes are on us.

I wrap my arm around Rosemary as she engages in conversation with Glimmer.

They introduce each other to the transfers, while I sit in silence.

Glimmer introduces me to some of the transfers, one being the Abnegation girl who constantly stared at me.

"This is Tris," I stick out my hand for her to shake. After a year in Dauntless, I had finally lost my habit of greeting people with a hug.

I also met a girl named Christina and a boy named Will, those two being quite close. As they all begin to talk, I notice Four looking at Tris in a different way. In a protective way.

I also notice Eric sitting in silence, probably irritated by the amount of people around us. Especially one of them being Four.

I grab his hand under the table, "I think I'm going to take this to go. You ready?"

I gesture towards my food, while looking into Eric's eyes.

"Yeah, let's go."

I look back to tell the others, but their eyes are already on me, so I'm guessing they already know.

We begin to make our way towards his apartment in quietness, his eyes focusing on the ground.

"You okay?" I ask him and he nods.

I nod back, "Race ya?"

His heavy footsteps are my only response and before I know it, he's already ahead of me. His laugh was the only thing that filled the air and it was a beautiful sound.

"Hey wait up!" I call out to him as I begin to run.

How did I get so lucky?
