VOCABULARY:

Ruler: Planet in the sign it rules

Exhalation: Not a ruler, but has the alternative energy to the ruler. If not even more powerful

Fall: Position of weakness, not a favourable placement

Detriment/Exile: Planet positioned in the opposite sign it rules, operates with the least strength


Rulership: referring to rulers

Debility: referring to fall or detriment

Dignities: Referring to [sign] that [planet] is in, a planetary placement's strength.

Here are examples to get you understanding:

bob has mars in Aries, that's mars in it's rulership, which is a powerful position where the actions of mars may be greatly exaggerated than other placements in mars. 

lily has mars in cancer, that's mars in it's fall. It's not a good position--it could be a negative passive way to express energy/anger, a lack of firey drive, or any other negative things associated with energy, drive, and motivation

johnny has mars in scorpio, in exaltation. the intense scorpio energy could radiate the same energy as aries, if not more powerful.
