The way her eyes sparkled that brilliant purple under her dark blue glasses, the way her long brown hair fell over her shoulders, the way-WAIT A SECOND. What in Hades am I saying? I couldn't fall for anyone, ever. It isn't in the nature for the children of Hades. Besides, even if I did like her, she would never like me back. Time to think of something slightly less depressing.

She is obviously a demigod. She has a very powerful aura. I wonder who's daughter she is. I have to find out soon, but how? I mentally slapped myself. We have the project! Grover told me enough about her to know that she often brings her partners for projects to her house to work.

"So Amber, do you want to hang out at your house to work on the project?" I asked straight forwardly. She looked over at me as if just realizing I was there. "Sure," she said. "That's where I normally work on school projects. Shouldn't you ask a parent, though?" Whoa. She is the first person I've ever met that hasn't asked me to ask my mom. I normally snapped at the thought of that because my mother is...dead. I slowly shook my head. "My dad doesn't care what I do and my mom...she passed away." She just looked at me. An emotionless face staring in my soul. I looked away.

"This probably won't sound real but I'm sorry for your loss," she said gently. I was shocked. Most people leave the subject alone. "My mom died in a fire when I was five. My dad left my mother and I when I was born. I know how it feels to lose someone you love." That story sounds awfully like mine.

We got onto her bus and were on our way in a few short minutes. I sat next to her in a seat close to the front. A guy walked up from the back of the bus moved to the seat in front of us. One look was all it took for me to hate him. He looked at me then Amber.

"Don't tell me you're hanging out with this dweeb," he said refering to me. "You should be hanging out with me and the rest of the football team." She looked him with pure disgust. "Go away, Johnathon. You know I hate you," she said with an emotionless face. He looked offended. "I will get you someday. And I won't give up until then." He was more stalkerish than Grover. Which was saying something. He stormed away.

Ten minutes later, we were walking to her house. "Sorry about what happened on the bus," she said to me. "Johnathon is just a jerk."

"Why did he talk like that, like he was trying to steal you?" I asked curiously. She sighed.

"We used to date when we were younger. He moved away and got depressed. He then got my phone number thanks to my friend, Hope. He would call me day in and day out. We hung out a few times, too. But soon, he began to like another girl so I broke up with him. The six months we were together were the happiest of my life. But then I started getting close to my best friend, Zack. We would hang out during school and then afterwards we would message each other until one in the morning. We eventually started dating but soon after, I moved here to the Upper East side. I found out Johnathon's dad got a promotion and moved to Brooklyn. Johnathon has been following me around school asking me out since."

"Wow," was all I could say. As we walked into her apartment, I began to feel like this place was familiar. "Who are your foster parents?" I asked as calmly as I could. She looked at me weirdly before saying, "This nice family. Sally and Paul Blofis and their son, Percy. Speaking of which, he should be home." I had about eight seconds to register what was happening before she yelled, "PERCY!!! COME MEET MY FRIEND FROM SCHOOL!!!" Then I heard a muffled voice say, "COMING!!!"

Percy Jackson walked down the stairs. "Who is this friend-" he started before looking at me. "Nico? Amber, how do you know Nico? He never leaves camp unless-" he said as realization dawned on his face. "Oh."

Sorry if these first few chapters are boring or unoriginal but it will get better. Constructive criticizsm is always welcome but don't be too mean. Even I, as strange as it may sound, have feelings too. Stay safe my dear demigods!!!

Your truly,

M. Leigh
