3rd person; Devyn 'Dee' Prince
"In time, i will leave the city," Devyn sang softly in her room. She sat, staring at her math homework with earbuds in. The shimmering light from her fairy lights shined above her, as she was listening soothing music of Twenty One Pilots and the completed with the softness of her blankets. She tilted her head as she scrunched up her face, trying to remember what to do next. Devyn dropped her pencil, and hung her head, giving up on her math homework. She sighed, taking deep breaths. BANG! Devyn jumped, looking up from her desk. There was a loud yell, as Devyn took out one earbud.
"I CANNOT BELIEVE YOU!" Devyn's mother, Jane, screamed. Devyn stood up from her chair, ripping out her earbuds as she heard a loud crash. Her father, Austin, yelled in pain. Scared, Devyn ran over to her door and opened it. She ran out into the living room, looking at Jane, who was standing angrily at Austin, who was on the floor. Austin was bleeding from his forehead and a chair was lying on the ground. Devyns hands shook as they went up to her mouth, watching as Jane shouted and shouted at Austin. Jane didnt even notice Devyn, as her daughter stood there shaking and crying. She didnt even notice when Devyns door slammed and didnt hear Devyns loud sobs coming from her room. This was the beginning of something terrible.
Everyday, it seemed. Every second. Every minute. Every hour. Constant yelling. Any moment where their is silence, Devyn watched her parents constantly go at each others throats. She finally learned what started the constant battle, through listening at what her parents were saying. According to Jane, Austin cheated on her. According to Austin, Austin was drunk and was raped. Jane didn't believe him. So she yelled, and yelled, and yelled, and yelled, and yelled about how much it hurt. Austin just kept denying it. But Devyn knew the truth. Her father cheated. There was no chance that Austin could look Devyn in the eye and lie to her. She was only 11 years old, how could a father lie about something so atrocious as that to his young daughter? Devyn asked him, and he told the truth. Devyn covered her pain and to drown out the unspeakable words that her parents throw around and drowned herself in music. When she was home, the earbuds were in and she was in her room. She felt like she didn't even have parents anymore.
Soon enough, Devyn grew tired. Tired of the fighting. Tired of the curse words. Tired of not having parents. Tired of the lies. Tired of the music that wasn't helping cope her anger from her parents. Every second minute house, there was anger. Her house soon had the energy aroma of anger, and whenever she even stepped one foot into her own home she felt angry. Angry at herself for not trying to help. Angry at her mother to stop the arguing. Angry at her father for lying. Angry at her parents for not taking care of her. Without even trying, Devyn joined the wrong crowd. She was now 13 years old, cussing like her parents, and channeling her anger through her actions. She walked the halls of her school pushing kids to the ground, stealing, drinking. And when she gets home, she turns on the music all the way up. But one night, she lost it. Her parents were aruging so loud that Devyn could them through the music. She sat on her bed in her room that was once covered in boy bands, pink walls, and happy times which turned into rock bands, black everything, and anger. She sat on her small bed and covered her ears and started to cry.
For the first time in a long time, Devyn cried. She cried so loud that her sobs turned into screaming. She sat on her bed, without thinking, screaming over and over the word "STOP". Tears were flowing out of her eyes and all the anger that was held up inside her was flowing out as if she were to explode at any moment. She was screamed so loud, still holding her hands to her ears, her eyes closed shut just screaming. Everything she had built up in the past two years came out, as she screamed one simple word. Devyns bedroom door slammed open, and her father, who was blue in the face looked at his daughter. She was sitting there, a complete mess. Her black mascara and dark makeup was all over her face and for once she didnt have a band tshirt on.
"WILL YOU SHUT UP?" her father yelled. Devyn stopped abruptly. She opened her eyes and looked her father in the eyes, no emotion whatsoever. She took her hands down from her ears and turned her head to the side and pointed at herself. Devyns mother walked into the room. Her father nodded.
Devyn laughed, she threw her head back and laughed. "You? You want ME TO SHUT UP?" She screamed. Devyn threw herself off of her bed and glared at her parents. "You guys haven't shut up for the past two years!" Her father looked at Devyn and licked his lips. "You have been SO busy yelling at each other over some stupid shit-"
"Hey language!"
"-that you haven't noticed me at all. You haven't noticed I've been cussing for a year, that im failing most of the classes, that i dont even go by 'devyn' or 'dev'. I go by Dee, and that ive joined the bad part of school. You haven't noticed that i have peircings in places you wouldn't want to imagine! I've done worse shit in the past two years than you two have done in your whole life! You guys have put SO MUCH ANGER into my life, that i barely feel like if i have a family anymore. So if you want ME to shut up then first you two have to shut the hell up."
Jane and Austin glanced at each other, and sighed. Jane stepped forward towards Devyn, but Devyn backed up in fear of her mother. "We need to leave," Jane said turning to Austin. Austin stopped and glared at Jane.
"Why would we-"
"FOR DEVYN!" Jane shrieked. "Do you realize how we ruined our perfect daughter? Do you realize how much hate and anger we have put into her? No matter how much we HATE each other we are still together for her, and we need to get the hell out of this terrible place and start over. Maybe you can get away from that slut of yours," Devyns moms added.
"JANE!" Devyn shrieked. "STOP THAT!"
"Jane?" Her mom repeated. "What about mom?" Jane suddenly looked worried and tried to walk towards her daughter.
Devyn looked at her mother in disgust. "You don't deserve the title of being my mother." Devyn slammed the door in front of her parents. She sighed and pressed her back to the door and slid to the ground.
Finally, she thought. I get to get out of this hell hole.
She closed her eyes, and for once, Devyn felt like she had a chance to get out of this locked cage she felt she was in. For the first time in two years, Devyn felt saved.
But who knew what ipswich would bring to this poor girl...
