Zoe's POV:
"Why didn't he tell us that they all died?" Jake asks dad from the end of his bed. I was sitting on the end of my bed the other side of the room, reading my Harry Potter book.
"He leaves to join the army, and 3 months later everyone he knows gets killed." Dad says. "Not even Grandpa could turn that into a bedtime story."
"Well, no wonder he was scared of being a dad..." Jake says.
"Being close to anyone." I continue.
"Listen." Dad says, turning around to face us in his chair. "You need to talk about all this with someone, guys. You should call Dr. Golan."
I roll my eyes. Has he ever thought that maybe I wanted to talk to him? Has he ever wondered whether I wanted him to be the one to tell me everything would be alright? He always pushes us away.
I close my book and get under the covers of my bed, hoping that tomorrow we can get away from dad, and go to the house.
