As we all stumbled out of the car, myself now mildly intoxicated with the heavenly taste of Jack, I noticed the rigidness within Sloan's stance. She was tense and found it difficult to relax her shoulders, resulting in me swinging my arm along her waist and pulling her close. "Who are we meeting?" I asked, slurring my words into incoherent mumbles.
"My family." She sighed, throwing open the front door and allowing it to slam against the wall. I raised my eyebrows in surprise, she didn't seem too happy to be here.
"If you dented that wall you're paying for it." A stern voice warned. But Sloan didn't flinch or react, walking past the aged woman and ignoring her attempts of embrace. I presumed it was her mother - perhaps an aunt - but she resembled Sloan too much to be anything other. The boys and I waited within the doorway awkwardly, silent and feeling small. "Come in, come in." The woman smiled, beckoning us closer. I took a few hesitant steps with a wary grin on my lips, unsure as the others, wandering behind the small and frail woman. She opened the door to the kitchen where Sloan stood, smiling beautifully, with a small baby wrapped in her arms. The man seated within the brown leather chair looked up from his newspaper, taking in each and every one of our appearances. I was utterly confused as to why they were all up so late.
"You." He pointed toward Axl, frowning. "Why are you here?"
"Your daughter invited us on a road trip, sir." He responded, stuttering lightly. I smirked and mocked him with a quick glance, though was quickly put in my place as the man spoke again with a cocky tone.
"You're a man of colour." He began. I set my jaw clenched tightly, nodding my head. This would go one way or another and I knew for a fact it wouldn't end well. "Do you consider yourself a white man or a black man?" He questioned. Sloan glared at him, yelling with an angered voice.
"Stop it, Peter!" She shouted, causing the baby within her hold to begin crying. I raised my eyebrows but responded to his inquiry none the less.
"Neither, Mr McCain." I answered, shaking my head and pushing the curls from my eyes. "I'm a man of both races." I felt proud of my ability to make it sound intelligent.
"So you're part Nigge-"
"Go to hell and rot." Sloan interrupted, throwing some sort of aged book directly at his head. Luckily, it missed by millimetres, just trimming the sideburns upon his cheeks. "I came here to see my baby fucking sister and here you go talking shit about my friends." She growled. "Fuck your self." And with that she handed the baby to the woman of which invited us in, snarling in the mans direction before turning around and wrapping her arm around my waist, just underneath the leather jacket, and stormed quickly through the house. Just as we were about to exit the door, a male voice called out with a snarky tone. "Slut." He coughed, causing all five of us boys to turn around and stare challengingly into his amused eyes.
