Some say the Fire Nation was the best place in all four kingdoms to live.

It made sense. If you were a part of the Fire Nation, you were safe from all threats. The walls were thick, the defense was well trained, and no one dared to mess with the Fire Nation.

All threats to the other kingdoms were made by the Fire Nation. They were at the top of the proverbial totem pole. Much like the element, the Fire Nation was wild, dangerous, and unpredictable.

The Earth Kingdom, out of the other three, served the biggest threat to the Fire Nation. They were large in numbers and were hardworking people with a tough outer shell. Earth benders were hard to move and harder to defeat.

The Water Tribes were more passive and chose to stay out of the line of fire. With most of the tribes either in the north or south pole, water benders didn't commonly intermingle with the other kingdoms and kept to themselves, and they liked it that way.

The Air Nomads were the biggest mystery of all. Only other air benders could make it to the air temples, keeping whatever they did up there a secret. They were whimsical, and if they ever moved out of the temples, they didn't stay in one place for long.

People tended to personify the element they were able to control. Even if benders weren't wearing their tribe's colors, their mannerisms were a dead giveaway to where they came from.

Jeon Jungkook was not an exception to this rule. He was fiery, hot-tempered, and always amped up to be better than the rest. His flame rose quickly, but with the right counter-attack, it was put out just as quickly.

All of his life, he's been a people pleaser. The youngest of four, he knew he wasn't as smart as his oldest brother, or as strong as his second brother, or as harmonious as his sister. His only way to show up aptitude was following out orders quickly and correctly, by any means necessary.

However, that didn't mean he was a monster. His father never gave orders for anything cruel or unusual. If top generals ordered Jungkook to do something out of his moral compass, he refused, and when his superiors went to his dad to tattle, the Fire Lord would back him up every time.

Yes, Jungkook was fourth in line to the Fire Nation throne. He had the most recognizable face throughout all four kingdoms, but he wasn't feared. The symbols on his uniform were feared, but Jungkook was a friendly face in formidable clothing.

Jungkook's favorite way to boost morale within his troops was a night of feasting and drinking at whatever place was open at his post. He was in Fire Fountain city the night his whole world changed.

"You guys know about the Si Wong desert, right?" Jungkook asked his peers. Some cocked their heads curiously while others let out feared gasps, hearing stories of the dreaded place. "It's the hardest place to survive in the whole world."

"I heard even the people that live there can't even survive," a soldier right beside, Seokjin, said, dramatically shivering. "Dehydration, starvation, skin cancer, you name it."

"The worst part is, there are rumors that there's a sand shark that lives there. It kills everyone that tries to pass through the desert and leaves no survivors," Jungkook gushed and the soldiers took a shot in solidarity, the image of a large sand shark surely going to haunt their dreams.

"Well, there had to have been survivors at some point, or else there wouldn't be stories."

Jungkook glanced over his shoulder to see who spoke out of line, but he only saw a waitress with a tray of drinks. He looked her up and down, not seeing her as a threat. Tall, tan, long black hair down her back, narrow eyes. He scoffed and turned back to his soldiers.
